One guy would find me every day on my floor ( he worked at a different floor) and give me food and sweets, have a chat and gave me his review of coffee on each floor. When I was in Paris I met some italians and we got drunk, sang songs and we vibed again. And when my cousin was in Italy some guy when he found out that he was Polish couldn't stop talking about how much he loves Polish food and that he has a Polish wife that cooks Polish stuff for him and he loves it. my theory (many easterns will deny it) is that italy was basically the western country that had better relations with the USSR ( eg. fiat esported cars in the societ bloc, italian media was one of the few (or the only?) allowed in the soviet bloc , etc). Meanwhile in western europe there's anti italian discrimination linked mainly to protestant autism or the fact that italians used to immigrate in those countries
