Back during the falklands war over 3000 brazilians volunteered to fight for Argentina, none of them were actually taken as the argentinian army had no foreign or mercenary legion to integrate them. General Figueiredo, leader of Brazil at the time, was also against letting brazilian citizens join the conflict at their own volition, fearing foreigners could see this as a proxy by the brazilian government for supporting Argentina while faking neutrality. Latee declassified documents also show brazilian spies operating in Argentina became aware of underground arms deals between Argentina and Libia, with the intent of preparing for an upcomming conflict with a western ally while avoiding suspicion by their main NATO arms dealers, Brazil concluded their targed was going to be Chile, based on rumors circulating within the argentinian officer core and decided not to snitch on the argentinians since it was not our problem.
Why would Argentina attack Chile?
>>222413821They were chimping out on Chile over some land dispute down in Tierra del Fuego/The Beagle ChannelIt's why Chile's reaction to the Falklands War was also "not my problem lol" and refused to support Argentina.
>>222413821Argentina had long territorial disputes with Chile over some islands in the far southern parts of their countries, actually the argentinians were already planning an invasion of Chile in 1978 to seize the Beagle Channel but the invasion plans were leaked and Pope John Paul II made the argentinian government swear they wouldn't invade, which they complied since contradicting the Pope wouldn't resonate well with a overwhelming catholic population. The argentinian junta and Pinochet also deeply disagreed with each other over the way they ran their countries. Since by 1982 the argentinians hadn't formally signed a treaty with Chile, it seemed the logical conclusion to us they were probably going to host some false flag operation to justify invading them anyway.
