I just find it fascinating. What country's history, if any except your own's, are you intrigued by?
Peak aesthetics for me.
Pretty cool.
>>222414018>>222414246I've been to both of these, love those lil yella fellas!
What did they do with these old ass buildings during the cultural revolution if they couldn't destroy them? Turn them into hospitals? House peasants in them?
>>222414311Maybe they saved them for last and just didn't get around to do it.
>>222414311>What did they do with these old ass buildings during the cultural revolution if they couldn't destroy themJingAn Temple in Shanghai was turned into a plastics factory
>>222414006Looks like a Hakka round house. We have a few in Taiwan. They were designed round so they could shoot arrows out of them against invaders.
>>222414349It is indeed a Fujian tulou
>>222414349The building method is great. Rammed earth is no joke.
>>222414349>Taiwan has tulouwtf where? are they real houses or just tourist spots now?
>>222414386Taiwan has a large Hakka population that lives in Miaoli and hsinchu counties. Here is the one in Miaoli
>>222414430A mall in Hsinchu has them embedded into their mall
>>222414430They are used for community events, plays and they do Hakka (language) tests in them
>>222414349Who invaded taiwan?
>>222414535Japan but that was later. In reality I assume they were for protection against aboriginals or non Hakka Chinese. Not an expert though and most taiwanese know little about the Hakka minority despite them making up I think 20% of the population.
>>222414349So which came first, those in mainland or Taiwan?
>>222414654Mainland. Hakka have been making round houses since before Taiwan ever had a Han person living on it. Taiwan just did a better job preserving the old stuff we do have.
