Did you know that Americans say "it's ten to eight" when referring to 19:51?they do this even with digital clocks, they just do the maths in their heads
>>222457038I don't think their digital clocks use military time
>>222457038do spanishers not do that?
>>22245703819:51 is literally nine to eight, why are Americans so bad at math?
>>222457038imc we would say ten in eight
>>222457038We say eight without ten (minutes)
>>222457038What do you say in spain.
>>222458361Probably nothing because they're still sleeping siesta.
>>222457038I would say nine short of eight
>>222457038My momberg does this and its fucking annoying. Just say the time bitch.
>>222457038Is the joke that they count down to 0 instead of 1? Anyways, we say ''ten before eight''.
>>222457038not only americans. number rounding is done here too. though, since smartphone become widespread no one is asking for time.
>>222457775>>222458361we say it's nineteen fifty one
no we say "ten till eight"
>>222457038in german we would say "ten fore eight"
>>222457038ten to eight is 1950
>>222457415there are multiple settings, you can change it to whatever you're comfortable with
if the hour is known we'll just say "it's 10 til"
>>222457415Why is it even called military time when you could just call it "the smart way to do it". There's a reason why it's used where survival is the key.t. lazy reserve officer
>>222457038Nah we tend to say "its a quarter of" or "a quarter past" or some type shi ya feel
>>222465969This seems to be more common with older generations. It makes more sense with analog clocks when the exact time isn't always obvious at the quick glance of a watch and you're judging more by the physical position of the hands. Younger people raised on digital clocks tend to just state the time down to the minute.
>>222460057When I did Spanish at uni they taught us to say "las 20 menos 9" o algo asÃ, although I've never actually heard anyone say that irl so maybe it wasn't realistic Spanish.
>>222457038nobody says "X til, X past" anymore. they just read out what the clock says numerically because of digital clock proliferation. thats a vestige of analog clocks which zoomers cannot transliterate
My GF could not read analog clocks until she was 14 lol. I think a lot of people secretly can't-
one has 3 syllables the other has 5
>>222465797Same.>>222466640Some say it's a zoomer thing but I can quickly name two persons of my age who had the same difficulty. And I didn't have much social circles so who knows how common it is.Pic unrelated.t. over 40
>>222466605we used to say that back in the 2000s. people just don't say that anymore
