When red wood + sugar cane became unprofitable and they found gold and silver in Minas in the southeast they all moved there and when coffe and agriculture became the next big thing they moved to Rio and São Paulo. The spanish used to stick in one place for most of their stay and bothered to make it livable but the northeast just became a plundered raped shithole + invasions from the french and dutch didnt help either.
