My father repairs cars, mostly electronics these days. Last time he talked about this, like year or two ago, he said that Japanese one's seem to more reliable, well designed. And that German one's not as good, from a certain date.
That said, it all depends on model, what parts you need.

Not surprised desu, hear nothing but bad things about them, was once driving on the motorway (freeway for the Americans) and passed by one that caught fire, poor bastard driver/passengers were sat at the side of the road looking miserable as the car became a husk

My sister had a mk5 jetta with 2.5L inline 5 which every VW guy raves as "bulletproof". What a piece of junk that car was. Hardly even see those cars on the road anymore.
>b-b-but you mutts do don't car maintenance
literally 3 out of 4 coil springs broke before 100k miles, that's just cheap manufacturing
>>
What happened to these cars?
Used to see them everywhere 10-15 years ago. Saw one for the first time in years the other day.
Did they all get scrapped? Are people too ashamed to drive them?
>>
years of min maxing German autism and austerity has lead to this
people will blame greedy management on this (which is partly true) but the fact is that even engineers will often deliberately choose weaker parts because they still fit the spec because "why should we use this better thing when the slightly worse thing also works???"
it's a cultural thing

Lexus is premium subbrand of Toyota.
>>222476115
Is this a secret? It's well known german cars are trashy money pit. VW i think have good reputation though
