What is the international banana market like? Do you have these things in your country? Are they relatively cheaper or more expensive than other fruits?

In America: Yes. Pretty cheap $/lb, I think.
>>
Did bananas used to be tastier? Now they are bland and you taste only the generic sweetness, not the banana flavor.
>>

They used to be 1usd a kg 7 yesrs ago, now they're 1.5 USD a kg if you're lucky.

Do you think think I'm old enough to have tested bananas before industrial revolution ?
>>
>>222509257
Well I think the current banana, cavendish, replaced the previous one in 1950s, so either you're old or imagining things or there have been incremental changes to this variety.
>>
>>222509257
You've only eaten Cavendish

it's one of the cheapest fruits (i can buy 30 or so with 2 USD in the street markets), only these varieties are widely available here:
silver banana (the most consumed, less sweet than cavendish)
cavendish
apple banana
plantain
ladyfinger or gold banana

"terra" means land or earth in portuguese.
it means literally "banana of the land/earth"
>>
>>222509239
I don't have them often but I'm pretty sure they're the cheapest fruit available year-round.

I like prata, but the banana availability is quite lacking down south. quite a shame really

>1,99€ per 5 bananas
Really? Bananas sold per unit instead of per kilo? I've only seen that done with kiwis and some very fancy apples.

I've tried "red bananas" and "mini bananas" (and plantains ofc) from my local store. Didn't like any of them more than Cavendish.

Have this sucker in my front yard. Almost cut it down before I noticed bananas were growing from it.

There's a special type here called Plátano Canario, which is smaller and less sweet (a bit more expensive too). I eat those ones because they're supposed to be healthier due to its lower sugar amount. Price seem to be around 2,7€ per kg online.
>>

So something like 25¢/12
My town is surrounded by banana farms on one side.

When I was at school worked in a supermarket on the produce section. First thing they did was put me on bananas because its straight forward and they need constant replenishment,

I had no idea bananas were so popular. I could cram them into the entire display and within a couple of hours they'd be empty again.
>>
>>222520449
it explains why people are willing to have them shipped across the world and then sell them for probably only a few cents of profit per kilo
