Hey, thread. Now that it's summer I am biking more and when I bike I stick in my earbuds and listen to JP stuff in the interest of learning the language. I'm still struggling on vocab a bit because my memory sucks, but I'm also pretty tired of vocab lists. Does anyone put out short stories read a line or two at a time in JP and then translated to EN? It would be incredibly awesome to find that so I could pick up the language while also hearing something new instead of the usual word lists.I'll also take suggestions of other audio stuff to stick on the MP3 player.

>>222887782遠く見える can be seen distantly遠くに見える can be seen in the distanceI don't think either is technically a wrong sentence on grammatical grounds but the meaning is slightly differentit's more a question of what is trying to be conveyed, and what is more natural to say in which circumstancesto me it feels kind of weird to be like "suddenly she is visible as from afar"but more natural to be like "suddenly she popped into view in a distant place"遠く見える could be like 目の前にあるのに遠く見えちゃう "even though it's right in front of me it looks distant"it's not the same thing as saying like "I can see the thing which is in a far away place"if it's some kind of quiz question it can just be poorly formulated or something
>>222887782突然 is a noun(ish) object that can be used as adverb even without any particle, similar to for example 直接. 遠く is an adverb but it's also a noun in the same form meaning far away, so に technically needs to be attached here to retain the meaning of "in some far away place".Anyway from here on we can postulate that adverbs in Japanese are all nouns really that might or might not need some particle to use adverbially.
