The distinction in proportions and directions is not maintained.However, we do write different forms when disambiguating such as codes with letters in them or just for style. Same with 0 with a slash. But that's not the default, fast handwritten numerals. Also some people do write 7 with a slash even if their 1 is just a line.It seems very standardised in schooling for Europeans, but it must be certain countries. I've seen a lot of French people's handwriting irl.
