I think most people especially locals believed her. The police and media, and jury (influenced by them), and the gossips didn't.

Actually I camped out there as a baby as well (though like 400kms away), except not at an actual campsite just out there wherever. Our dog at that time apparently ran off following dingoes for a few days. The family story is he joined a dingo pack, but I think that's unlikely, wouldn't they just kill him? Actually I didn't even sleep in a tent, just in the open. We had guns though.
