in shetland and maybe also in orkney (not sure) they consider themselves unique and not really scottish, they have norse blood and a norse language used to be spoken there

in the hebrides, some people speak gaelic and in some of the remote islands people are still religious

Isle of Man is where we historically sent our homosexuals (it's true, don't waste your time looking it up)

Extremely windy and rainy, striking landscapes, some of the least amount of sunlight in the world. Never really goes above 20c except in heatwaves.

People are largely either crofters or their descendants or transplants that WFH and live out some sort of idyllic life there. Hardly any people and very common to have entire beaches and world class hiking/ramblings spots all to yourself.

Hebrides is the most catholic place in britain, orkney is like a million different islands surrounding the main capital island.

quiet people, not much going on there at all. time has almost stopped outside kirkwell.

also virtually no you-know-whos
>>
>>222925981
It's not part of the UK.

Shetland used to have 5 times the population of the faroes, now they have under half. That's what direct rule from london/edinburg has done. They wish they had our autonomy.

I find the history of the area to be fascinating. It’s crazy to think about how long the Kingdom of the Isles lasted and how long the Lordship stayed powerful and autonomous under the MacDonalds. It looks so alien and almost contrived on a map too with so many peninsulas poking out.
