Getting a trade here means having full time job at like 20 years old while your peers are all having the time of their lives in university doing bullshit studies, spending a year abroad, having more fun, then ultimately landing a better job than you at 28.

Union tradies have a ton of benefits and easily make 6 figures. Non union tradies aren't as lucky. Becoming an electrical or a welder can be extremely lucrative and indeed rack up 150k-200k rather early in your career... if you're in an union.The overtime part is true but optional, you're never forced to do overtime but they always offer it if you want. The fucked up back/body is true. Hands is something non tradies don't mention, but it's something tradies fuck up a lot as well. The solution is simple but it will not make you popular. Do the bare minimum and always refuse to do a job when it's too dangerous (justify it with the written rules/laws). New guys love to overdo it during their years and do 60 hours per week and always go on jobs or answer tickets instead of staying on call to show that they can be capable and do well their job. Maybe during the first 6 months people will care about that and look at it, but after that you're just progressively ruining your own body for nothing. An usual wake up call is a broken finger/hand or a sprained back. It's a job that requires you to be a selfish asshole to get the perfect ROI out of it.
