Later, both of them became ruled by the french-speaking burgundian dukes. After that, the spanish habsburgs, after that the austrian habsburgs, after that the french again and after that the dutch ruled for 15 years and after that they finally became Belgium, a state that originaly was ruled by a proud francophone elite and said bruxellois elite themselves converted their city to french during the XIX Century.
