The original objectives of the Vietnam War was to stop the spread of Communism in Southeast Asia. They deserve credit for the partial victory. The original war on terror was to defeat Al-qaeda and then ISIS. If you look at the state of Islamic terrorism in 2001-2021, its clear that most of it has been cleared out. Small pockets exists in North Africa and the Middle east but aside from that the War on Terror was largely a success. The only thing the US failed on was nation building in Afghanistan. Yes the Taliban took back power. Yes the US lost in that respect but again, the US deserves partial credit for the victories and war aims it did achieve.
