Obviously you don't just throw an infant in the water, but my daughter could float in the pool as an infant. She passed the deep end tests before she turned 2. It takes them exposure and practice, but a literal month old baby will hold his breath if you dunk him. If you have a pool in your back yard and children, you better teach them how to swim as soon as possible.
