Is the English word "doctor" confusing to foreigners? In English, "doctor" primarily means physician but it can also mean anyone who has a doctorate in something. I think English is the only language that does this.

>>222947699>Arzt
>>222947712Both physicians (who have a doctorate) and your regular phd fags use Dr. in their titles
>>222947657>can a nigga pursue a doctorate?
>>222947755Yeah but you don't say I need to see a Doktor when you are sick. We do. Likewise in moon, a physician is 医者 and a doctor is 博士.
>>222947657Probably not, but in finnish if you call a medical professional 'doctor' (tohtori), it sounds archaic and even infantile. It's commonly used for anyone with that level of degree(which all medical pros don't have). The usually used word for physician is lääkäri, from lääke(medicine).

>>222947888>if you call a medical professional 'doctor' (tohtori), it sounds archaic and even infantileNow that I think of it, it's probably because doctorate is in itself not a profession but a title, and Finns rarely use titles.
>>222947813Maybe it's some regional difference but it's kinda common
If anything, physician is much more confusing considering it can be mistaken for "physiotherapist" or even "physicist" by some people.
>>222947657Well he was riding his bikeWhen there's a lightning strikeAnd now he reads real fastHe's good at science and mathBlack Doctor!
Pretty cringe for PhDs do go by Doctor or insist on it. If they are a professor than "Professor" is perfectly fine but doctor is definitely cringe
>>222949113If you go by anything but your first name, you're a twat.
>>222947813>in moon
>>222947657nah, we do that too
>>222947657We do have that here. Moreover, and this is something that doesn't happen in your language, we have magisters and inżyniers. Basically people with master's and bachelor of science degrees have titles as well. It's mostly for signatures and work IDs though.
