Europeans have a consistent concept of nationhood whereas american concept of nationhood is home ownership, gambling (social security is the biggest gamble of the century) and hating things that make them feel uncomfortable.
Europeans just don't want to work 50 hours a day and die in oil wars. They don't want to day trade and be a money obsessed country of porn addicts. That's why they voted to censor american soft power (pornography) and why Americans couldn't shut the fuck up when that happened.
