I’m British in the Americas and I have to say Europeans in general are a lost cause. The whole “Why do Western Hemisphere people think we are rude for not being sociable and smiling?!?! It’s just da culture” is a fucking cope. We are a continent of losers. I’ve now backpacked to every country in the continental Americas besides Guyana and Suriname and am constantly humiliated by the coldness of Europeans. I’m at a hostel and see an American, Panamanian, Brazilian, and Colombian laughing together then off in seperste corners is me, a Norwegian and Czech guy. Somebody hands the Norwegian guy Yerba mate and he says “thanks” with no smile.

Europeans say “wait till you get us drinking” but we don’t drink sociably we drink to further humiliate ourselves.

Let’s admit it - people of the Americas are friendly and polite and jovial and outgoing. We Europeans just suck. We can't even fucking smile when we say thanks? Seriously what is wrong with us? Is this we we always accept retarded political projects and shit? Just look at pic related - Europeans can't even look at strangers without feeling sick to our stomachs. I'm humiliated by our evil culture.

This sounds like the start to the plot of a movie where brown favela dweller becomes radicalized into catholic right wing white supremacy and leaves for Europe expecting it to be a utopia but it's just a shithole open air museum with angry bitter people and he come back and dances to samba music and it zooms in on his face and he sort of smiles like "Yeah, this isn't so bad after all."

I like to be friendly and smile because we lack that in Poland, some people are rude when I'm like that but most people if you're friendly and kind get visibly happy and who knows, maybe that day they pass on the good vibes further.

The coldness and unfriendly attitude is the fake shit. It is so easy and natural to smile and say "thanks" to strangers at the very least.

Wait is that train picture real? Nobody is looking at anybody or talking to anybody or exchanging any human kindness. That's really sad. The brightest part of my commute is this really nice black woman from Mississippi who moved up to help her son raise grandkids. We catch the same train and often sit by each other and she sometimes gives me banana bread and food she made for her grandkids and I sometimes buy her a coffee when I stop for one before getting on the train.

I can't imagine not exchanging human kindness on public transit. What kind of sick world would that be?

Be the change you want to see. Who cares if anyone thinks you're a smiling fool. It's better to be happy alone than miserable in company. that's what they want. but the best is being with a group of gregarious loud people. i swear its true, you old world people can be so reserved. Except for the Mediterraneans , they are also , lets say, cosmopolitan. Scottish people are fun when they drink, too.

Unironically, are you brown? I have no experience at all with this and find most, if not all, europeans to be very open and friendly. Non-europeans however tend to be very loud and often slightly obnoxious in public spaces and I don't like that at all.

>>
Not sure about the entirety of Europe but I swear to you, people here are just so uselessly negative.
>>
>>223128023
>How do you start a conversation on the subway
You turn to the person next to you and ask them what they're listening to or what they're reading or what they're up to today.

My first ever time in Europe (now I've been to over half) I was in the Netherlands on a bus and this guy was reading A Tale for the Time Being (which I had just read) and I asked him how he liked it and he looked at me like I said "I'm going to fucking rape you" and just went "oh uh... yeah good" then literally oriented his body away from mine. I realized then that europeans don't like talking to strangers.

>inb4 must be brown

I don't get this kind of absurd hostility. To be fair, I feel like (at least here) things weren't like that in the past, like 20years ago. Back then I remember casually interacting with random strangers and shop attendants. These days people seem so tense.
>>
>>223127755
This is actually it. The New World always had a frontier and always had adventurers and was always more in a state of nature with cooperation being a necessity. I also think given the New World are nations of immigrants communication was harder which led to lots of smiling and waving instead.

North Mexico, Western USA, Western Canada, South Argentina and Chile, South western Brazil, etc all developed so similarly and the core of those nations also had a vibe of "we are staying connected to the mother content" arrogance. I think New World nations almost all developed the same and it led to our personalities. Even the fact that all of us besides Canada, Belize, sorta Brazil, and a few Caribbean islands fought revolutions for independence has something to do with it. And the emphasis on being in a republic makes you more positive towards your fellow man than being a subject of a king. The New World is where the enlightenment was put into practice from Buenos Aires to San Jose to DC and the enlightenment is not misanthropic by any means.
>>
>>223129094
>You turn to the person next to you and ask them what they're listening to
absolutely mental. offensive surely. surely you are not serious about that. I get other stuff like small talk but that is ridiculous. if you are listening to anything here it means you definitely wish to be left alone
>>

>>

Australians are New Worlders as are kiwis. Australians have a SOVL to them, an openness and adventurous spirit.

I can only imagine the shock and rage at Australian Boy Joy by Londoners or Slovakians
>>
>>223129152
>if you are listening to anything here it means you definitely wish to be left alone
It just means you prefer music to silence. If you don't want to talk just say you don't want to talk. I always enjoy when strangers talk to me I learn so many things, especially from people who have an interesting life story.
>>
>>223126510
>nonwhite amazed at white country being frank and authentic rather than facetious and performative
i don't know what kind of rape the quakers put your ancestors through for not being annoyingly overnice but it's only observed here. New Yorkers are the only crowd that I enjoy because they read vibes quickly and respect when someone isn't talkative. nobody owes you anything.
>>223127755

The settlers on the frontier here murdered and raped each other. Quit basing your understanding of frontier living off of Rockstar Games
>>
>>223129175
This. When I see a smiling stranger I just want to beat their fucking face into a pulp until there's nothing left and ask "happy now?" and walk away leaving the normies scared at my vulgar display of power

it's not he's full of shit
I hobo'd all over europe and the US, they're the same level of friendliness in both places. small talk has not been normal in the US since at least 10 years ago. If anything I find that people in america are slightly more closed off.

I tend to be surly and reserved myself and while in europe have had the experience of people trying to make conversation with me and getting annoyed that I didn't reciprocate at least 20-30 times - I have never had the reverse happen

1) Freedom of association
2) The annoying fraternal underpinnings of freedom of association
You're not tied to some esoteric social norms like a cloistered monk, however there are drawbacks like being fired from a job because someone doesn't like you. There's no American society, it doesn't exist, but there is fraternity. Euros just need to motion through the social rituals and everything is secure, taking a risk could mess everything up, there's no point to spontaneous association. In the US everything is a risk so why not.

There is no such thing as friendliness. Humans are supposed to be naturally weary and not open up to every stranger they see.
In thirdie countries people are "friendly" because to them every interaction is transactional, they're trying to get something out of you so they try to build a rapport and trust so that they can later manipulate you for their own personal gain. It's the same in America, a hyper post capitalistic fake shithole with fake clout addicted people.
Europeans are brutally honest, if they don't like you they will say it to your face and that's how it's supposed to be in high trust societies. They are content with what they have and don't have to pretend to be something they're not for others feefees. They don't want anything from anyone which is why they seem cold and distant to extroverted normgroids.
>>
>>223126510
I have spent a lot of time in Northern Europe since my girlfriend is Norwegian. I do not think that Europeans are as rude as portrayed, it’s just that most people there have resting bitch face. That said, I do think it is really funny/delusional that in every part of the world people at least try to be warm and friendly but Europeans act like literally everyone else is lying, like they cannot fathom that people outside of Europe are friendly just because they are friendly.
>>
But we are juts le saying it "how it is"

Le there is no reason to smile because the economy is bad o algo

those outgoing americans who smile? you cant trust them, you just know they are trying to backstab you

those socially retarded yuros who give everyone the death stare? well, those are honest people, they are the only true people in this world, they are acting bad because the economy is bad and climate change o algo

slavs especially are obnoxious about this shit

I really do appreciate the jovial nature of americans, when they get your name they start using it in and involving your name in everything almost as if to signify "we're in this together now". they make it a whole thing that they remember your name to signal you're someone to them
>>
>>223133197

lol ive had it several times when i was in uni, i was hanging out with a group (as best as i could as an autistic incel) for several hours

and then when it ended, i realized i did not know anybody's name and neither did they know mine

seriously tho, its actually crazy how rarely people call you by your name during a conversation, its like there is some sort of social anxiety around it
>>
>>223133578
just my theorising but perhaps things such as language has to do with it. in my language you can talk about yourself without talking about yourself (there's no need to constantly use the words "I" or "me"). you can tell your whole life story in a very passive manner like you just happened to be there to experience it
