A question to muslims and non-muslims:

Imagine this scenario: you are entering now an empty mosque.

There is no one around, just you and the ambience.

What exactly do you do?
How do you react being in a place where many people believe is God's home?

I wanna know what passes through people's minds when they are put in this situation.

Be sincere.

I take a nap because the carpet looks comfy
>>
>>223231246
I grew up Muslim and experienced this many times. I will say, despite the fact that I don’t believe in any of it, it is still incredibly soothing for me to enter these Masjids. It takes me back to late night prayers during Ramadan, sleeping on the carpet when I got exhausted, strawberry milk to break my fast. Those were very comforting experiences for me. I haven’t felt that comfort in more than a decade at this point. I have a God-shaped hole in my heart.
>>
>>223231246
I dobprayer to honor the mosque first. Then I'll take a nap.
>>

As a muslim, it's recommended to perform prayer first to honor the mosque. Then, you can do as you please as long as you keep quiet. You can take a nap if the mosque is pretty empty.
>>
>>223231246
Been in this situation many times. I used to sit in a corner and read a book.

I would definitely not sleep there.
Sit on the ground, lay myself down? Maybe.

Also, I do not know any islamic prayer, but I would for sure think about God.

>>223231383
>I don't belive in any of it
You would stay there as if it was only you then? You do not think he is there?

>>223231411
You do not feel the need to do something? Why?

>>223231414
That's kinda the idea maybe.

>>223231479
But what would you do now?

>>223231489
What would you look for?
>>
>>223231603
> You would stay there as if it was only you then? You do not think he is there?
I am something like a deist. To answer your question directly - no, I don’t think God is there. I think God probably exists outside of the material world. He isn’t present anywhere on Earth, and I don’t think he mingles in human affairs.

Why?

I'll enjoy the beautiful architecture, if it's actually beautiful.
Otherwise it'll be like a random building

I once hired a escort and had sex with her in a church. That was when churches were still open to the public 24/7

Tbqh it's ok to take a rest / sleep inside a mosque. I used to do it long ago when I travelling around the country. Instead of hotel, I look for comfiest mosque to spend the night. The caretaker also good people most of the time, too. They sometime bring me food in the morning. I never rejected by the mosque in my journey.

how do you feel about God apart from the usual rituals you do?
when you are there just by yourself, do you really feel he is there or is it just something you do because you were raised like this?
there is a mosque in my town and I like to go there, but I do not understand your religion, I feel deeply connected with it anyway, there is something calling me, soething very powerful
>>
>>223232012
I think there is a difference of opinion because I know there are mosques that won't let you sleep in them. but there is also the opinion that mosques aren't supposed to just be praying halls, they're also supposed to be community centers, place to rest for travelers, etc.
>>

>>223232308
yes, not only the abrahamic gods in my opinion
>>
>>223232012
No, it depends on the caretaker. If you're not allowed to sleep inside, they'll inform you. Restricted mosque usually locked outside of prayer time.
>>
>>223232397
the concept of being unconscious in a public space for hours do not sit well with me

>>

peace of mind
>>
>>223232358
I used to view god in a negative night because of the misfortunes in my life and he wasn't answering my prayers. Now I adjusted my view on that because judging god with human values seems misguided at best. I'm not sure if there is a god, but I *feel* like there is one. If he was a human, I'd think he doesn't like me very much.
>>
>>223232464

I do believe in the One and I think he wants me to do something very important and I don't know why.

I will not convert to islam or any other religion really (I am gay and most religions hate it and say that God is against it and I cannot accept it), I think he just wants me to go to a mosque and pray

my life is very difficult now, I hope you also find something

Nominally. I go to church, but I doubt more than I believe. Funnily enough my faith has been on a decline ever since I started reading the Bible, because the Old Testament is, to be honest, so full of completely absurd, random and occasionally downright disgusting stuff that I'm not sure how to treat anything Abrahamic seriously anymore. I guess I'm an agnostic with Catholic traditions, or maybe a deist of some kind.
Been flirting with Zoroastrianism (the OG monotheism with angels and satan + interesting concept of an omniscient, but not omnipotent God, which solves the problem of evil) and Gnosticism (their interpretation of Yahwe being the usurper Demiurge and not the actual God is a pretty sensible explanation of all the insane shit from the Old Testament), but not enough to do anything official.

but I feel connected to islam for some reason I think it is because the religion that emphacizes the oneness of God the most

Huh? Upon entering a mosque, most muslims will perform the optional (sunnah) prayer (solat) called Tahiyyatul Masjid before sitting down on the floor/carpet. If the 5 compulsory prayers are not yet time, most people will grab a Quran on the shelves and read it or simply doze off until the call to prayer (adzan) is made.

The mosque is not literally "God's Home", i.e., God does not live there. It is a figure of speech to instill respect and decorum when you enter the mosque.

Here are a few tips if non-Muslims wish to enter a mosque. Yes, non Muslims are welcomed to enter provided you observe the following:
1. Men must wear long pants or sarong that covers below the knees. Your clothing must be decent (no lewd pics, obscene word etc.) and clean.
2. Women must cover their hair with a scarf or shawl. No need to wear a full hijab, a token shawl will suffice. The clothing must be decent and covers the whole body. Many mosques even provide a jubah for female guests to wear.
3. Take off your shoes at the entrance. You may keep your socks on.
4. Technically, mensturating women may not enter the main prayer hall but no one will ask.
5. Women and men often have their own entrance and segregrated areas inside the mosque proper that are clearly signposted. Don't go into the wrong areas!
6. Talk softly as if in a library.
7. NEVER walk in front of a person who is praying. Big no no. Wait until he finishes if you have to cross in front of him.
8. Sit down cross legged on the floor or carpet if you wish to sit. If you want to observe the prayers or sermon, sit at the back row to not impede others.
