It's sad how there's really no threads for VPN 大陆人 or other Chinese diasporas from TW/HK/SG/MY to congregate in. I see plenty of flags from these countries, hopefully this can be the start of that.Any interested Sinophile/curious 老外 who wants to learn more about Mandarin/Chinese culture are also welcome.Hopefully we can get enough interest to make this general a mainstay on this board.欢迎大家使用普通话/华语来交流!繁體字也可以!
I want to unlearn Mandarin and Hokkien so I can cope better with Singapore being controlled by indians.
Do you guys think there is a chance that Chinese will become the next lingua franca by mid century? If it does, I will be middle-aged/old by then and it seems next to impossible to learn a new language at that age, so I'm thinking the best time to start is right now.
>>223389471除了DBS/Prudential之外,我们的印度问题没像你说的那么夸张吧别 doomerpost okay?在thread开头这么说,很不吉利
I'm not a diaspora, this is my homeland. You need to go back.
>>223389519Personally I dont think so. It's grammatically and phonetically too foreign to the current lingua franca of English (completely different from its Latin-Germanic-Franco roots), and its use is mostly concentrated in one country + a few other hotspots for our diaspora. But I welcome you to try if you're interested! Learning a new language never hurts.

How bad is the censorship in mainland China really? I haven't had a lot of contact with chinese, but I was surprised how sheltered they were. It just seemed like they have a far more strict information control than many other authoritarian countries
>>223389883I can't really speak for them at all, but imho from my experience with some mainlanders, it depends on one's adventurousness. The curious ones will get a VPN because they're interested in Western internet. They are probably a minority though, and they usually stay more on mainstream sites like Twitter/instagram. Or Steam because they want to download some games that are just not available there.Hopefully the vpnchang namefag can come and clarify.t. ex was a mainlander and she was fairly westernised before even coming here
>>223389400>TW/HK/SG/MYJust out of curiosity, why do most people leave Macau out of the Chinese speaking countries? If I remember correctly, Macau has two official languages (Chinese and Portuguese) and Cantonese is widely used in everyday conversation. On top of that, the people understand Mandarin well, but almost everyone treats Macau as if it didn't exist in the sinosphere.

Why do people in mainland China and Taiwan people love Japanese anime, manga, VTubers, and underground idols so much? For me all of them are like uh nuh.
>>223391075Chinese people are born imperialists. Just know that.Putting Hong Kong and Taiwan very anti-CCP is less about opposition and more about serving another empire. One is the Anglo-Jewish Free west World Empire, and the other is the Jap Empire or something. As long as the empire continues to grow stronger according to the wishes of the Chinese, even if tomorrow the empire decrees that half the population must be conscripted into the army, the people will comply without hesitation. They may object to my statements, but they will do as I say btw
>>223389883Most people can easily use VPNs; the reason they don't is simply because they don't want to.For example, Telegram has an enormous number of Chinese users. The reason I use it is because whenever I travel to a new city for work, I need to find massage parlors and prostitutes. Basically, every city has several groups with over ten thousand members where clients share resources and share their experiences with prostitutes.

Most Chinese don't even know Taiwan has a different government for example (at least in the deep countryside).

>>223389883you can't know what is due to censorship and the great firewall and what is just caused by the chinese not caring or not being interested. i lived there for years and many chinese aren't intrested in the west besides some sport, which was shown on chinese tv, and some movies, which were in the cinema and online. so would they be interested more in western things if they were exposed to it online and in the chinese media? yeah probably because that is the effect of media exposure. but is the lack of exposure due to censorship or just editorial decisions about what to include in media and ut online? no one can say either way. but you can find western reports of justin beiber being banned from the chinese internet but yet he was still over the internet, same for lady gaga and k-pop, yet they are still all over the internet in china.
