The Arabs didn't ban French, in fact the French language probably only got stronger then as it became their main language for higher education, and the blacks who name themselves in French do because they are christian, the blacks who are muslim do not have French names.

>>223403927This falls apart immediately when you consider that Emir Abdelkader was called "el-Djazairi" (The Algerian) in the early 19th century. In Arabic it has been called el-Djazair for centuries, with locals referring to themselves using that demonym. In foreign languages it used to be Alger/Algiers (same word for both the state and the city, just like it is in Arabic today) before the name of the country being turned into Algérie/Algeria, to disentangle the two, but that's an exonym and these are picked by others for you in any language. As far as Algerians are concerned nothing changed.
