Nearly every southern state was half black and their entire economy revolved around exporting raw materials to Europe. That is the definition of a banana republic and on top of it they wanted even more slaves. They honestly believed they could enlighten black people, yes they thought they weren't human, but they wanted to keep them around anyway to raise them out of their savagery...through slavery and being treated like work animals. It's very rare I say this, but the moral side won the war and I do not care about niggers I wish Lincoln shipped them back, but oh wait a Confederate shot him before he could then lobbied his administration for indentured service.
