Looking for weird and dumb construction hats and I have one thing to ask: Americans, care to explain this?

OSHA regulations stipulate an ANSI hard hat. It does not stipulate the shape. Many people want the additional wire brim, but also a cowboy hat look. Others refuse to not wear a cowboy hat. Typically these are texans, northern mexicans, guatemalans, and other comparable peoples.
The sort of person who wears this is related to the sort of person who will not ship to California out of spite over gay rights and the clinton assault weapons ban. Like the model train store I use.

In hot countries like texas, los angeles, mexico or australia it's 35 C out and covering your face will probably kill you. Shade is an actual hard safety requirement in these places, can't work outside in the heat more than 20 min without a 30 min break. Companies tend to add covered work spaces or adjust hours to the night in the summer months as a consequence.
