Do you suffer of small town syndrome in your country?
>>223418603What does small town syndrome entail?
>>223418603Is that the George Floyd wall?
>>223418610Small Town Syndrome is a colloquial term (not a clinical medical diagnosis) used to describe the psychological and behavioral effects of living in a small, isolated community for an extended period. It generally refers to two contrasting experiences:1. The "Big Fish in a Small Pond" MentalityThis describes individuals who develop an inflated sense of self-importance because they are well-known and highly regarded in their limited local environment. Symptoms: A belief that one is famous or influential, often leading to arrogance. When these individuals move to a larger city, they experience a harsh reality check upon realizing they are anonymous and no longer receive special treatment. Behavior: Excessive concern with local gossip, reputation, and social status within the town, while remaining unaware or dismissive of the broader world. 2. The Fear of the Outside WorldConversely, it describes a paralysis or fear experienced by those who feel unable to function outside their familiar, small environment. Symptoms: Anxiety about moving to a city, attending large universities, or navigating complex social situations without the safety net of known neighbors. Behavior: A reluctance to leave home, often resulting in staying in the hometown despite a lack of opportunities, due to a belief that the outside world is too overwhelming, dangerous, or impersonal. Common CharacteristicsRegardless of the specific type, the syndrome often involves:Narrow-mindedness: Limited exposure to diverse cultures, ideas, and lifestyles can lead to rigid thinking and resistance to change. Social Stagnation: Life may revolve around high school dynamics, cliques, and repetitive routines, making personal growth difficult. Isolation: A feeling that "nothing happens here," which can lead to boredom, depression, or self-destructive behaviors as a way to cope with the monotony
>>223418644>This describes individuals who develop an inflated sense of self-importanceI don't personally suffer from this as someone who grew up in a town no one even really knows me here.
I grew up in a small town of around 3k people. But I was a nobody and knew no one. I now live in a much bigger city of 30k and I still know nobody but I see lot more foreigners and Arabs (before it was none)
>>2234186447/10 me
>>223418696How does that make you feel?
>>223418696>much bigger city of 30kmeh
>>223418603I love how westerners love making up made up problems like duh small touwn syndrome or muh depsression dude shut up nobody cares
>>223418696I live in a city of 100k and still feel like what italian described above, narrow, isolated + village mindset
>>223418644It's hard to relate to the ideas for me
>>223418644I only suffer from the narrow mindedness symptom, as in I dislike foreigners and tourists and everyone irritates me especially during summer.
>>223418644This actually explains why people from outside the largest cities act so weird. Like when several people try to help them with direction, they still whined. And generally this strange hostility and sense of being persecuted, even if other people mind their own business or even try to help.
>>223418773Its massive tho. There are so many people and I can go into town and buy a video game instead of taking the train to the nearest shopping centre
>>223418797>making up made up problemsThey aren't made up. It's called identifying problems. Something you Russians never do. You just pretend they don't exist and suffer the consequences.
I grew up in a small town, moved to London for school, absolutely hated it. Fuck big cities
>>223418644What do you call the thing where you came from a large city with lots of renown and reputation but move to a small town instead because that shit is too exhausting?
>>223419993this! this brit gets it.
>>223418644>due to a belief that the outside world is too overwhelming, dangerous, or impersonalAre they wrong though? As far as I know studies have shown that modern city life is actually overwhelming for our brains and causes constant stress and life in cities is also more dangerous and impersonal.
>>223419446You're really pretentious and not as smart as you think
>>223418603vghhh I wish I lived in a small town. I fucking hate it here.
>>223421119i live in a small town and its like this picture just with white people and eastern europeans instead of browns. the uk is 3rd world in nature. i wanna escape to a big city asap
>>223421177Don't know why you'd want that.>the uk is 3rd world in natureWrong. It's still nice in rural communities but I can't afford to live there.
>>223421274>Don't know why you'd want that.because tfl is amazing, buses and trains come every 2 mins, much much cheaper. better social life, people are less judgemental, more fun, more women to date/shag, more diverse women. small town women are fucking ugly and trampy as shit bro. i lived london for a few years it was like being in the 1st world finally. also its safer than where im from, because london is rich and not deprived like what everyone thinks, the reality is opposite, small towns are deprived and shit.
>>223421330>the reality is opposite, small towns are deprived and shit.to add to this. when i came back, i found out my old friend group, half are in prison for life, 2 of them died, 1 had to be put into witness protection and moved up north and the other is a father at 21 years old with a crackwhore of a gf. white btwsmall town life is rot as fuck in uk, at least from my experience (~70k population)
>>223421372Sorry to hear that bro
>>223418644would you rather live in the 36 million megalopolis of dhaka, bangladesh or a swiss town with 10k population?
>>223418603I have the oppositeI grew up in the densest neighborhood in Europe and felt weird when I came back to my parent's hometowns If think it's called the "Manhattan syndrom"
>>223421725I’M WAUKING ‘ERE
>>223421372>70k population>smallI grew up in central Scotland in a 10k town and it was nothing like you are saying. Sure the valley had some junkies but thats it
>>223418644I again live in the town I grew up in and no to both (a bit of social stagnation and narrow-mindedness but that is due to me being a chud). I also went to the big city university™ but I found city live too stressful since day one. And this was "only" in a ~300.000 inhabitant city.
>>223421372Isn't that the plot of Trainspotting?
>>223422374yeah 70k isnt the smallest town ever, but its still a small town. 10k is more like a village imo>>223422766idk i saw that movie 10+ years ago but i dont think anyone got stabbed in it
