There's less diplomatic options but more features relating to armies and combat, so it all depends on your inclinations.

Enjoyment of the game rises bigly once you start to dabble in the order system in a proper way by organizing your troops by type and learning all the orders you can do on the fly. Butterlord has better battles, sieges and strategy but diplomacy took a bit of a backseat.As for what you're supposed to do if you wanna "finish" the game, just color the map with your faction's color.
