Are Chileans the only Spanish speakers with a really distinctive accent? It's the only variety of Spanish that genuinely throws me off because so many of its sounds are different. Apparently there's even an ongoing shift in their unstressed post tonic vowels, although that's still up for debate. Most other Spanish accents seem to differ in only 3 or 4 major features, so I find them much harder to tell apart

Beyond that, most regional accents are difficult to distinguish unless you're a native speaker. From a purely phonetic standpoint, they're remarkably similar. What makes an accent sound different is pronunciation, not vocabulary
