>>223437877Americans unironically think that just because there are McDonald's outlets in Vietnam that must make them loyal allies. China has McDonald's too lmao.
>>223437877If they try anything it's going to be Burma 2 style military coup, let's be honest there's nothing they're capable of striking aside from their own factions internally. There's no bases near them and almost all of the supply chain is contained on islands. Not even China would want them to go full on socialist because Vietnam's state could then close off their market. China is communist in name only, they do almost nothing to spread it like the USSR did. They don't even have a gosplan, which was the main thing the US was crying over in the Cold War.
>>223437877>Your recent stunts against Venezuela and now Cuba spooked the shit out of them.I have a feeling its mainly the situation with Taiwan thats the issue here
Why would they be
>>223438038Venezuela had oil that's the difference. The US isn't allowed to do colonies anymore and democracy makes expansion untenable because more states mean more voters. It takes decades for something to become a state, Hawaii was a territory around the 1890s and only became a state in like 1960.
>>223437914...wait, does it not?
>>223437997>>223438038>>223438071>>223438122>“There’s a consensus here across the government and across different ministries. This isn’t just some kind of a fringe element or paranoid element within the party or within the government.”>The Vietnamese military analysts outline what they see as a progression over three American administrations — from Barack Obama, through Donald Trump’s first term, and into Joe Biden’s presidency — with Washington increasingly pursuing military and other relationships with Asian nations to “form a front against China.”>“The 2nd U.S. Invasion Plan provides one of the most clear-eyed insights yet into Vietnam’s foreign policy,” wrote U.S. analysts. “It shows that far from viewing the U.S. as a strategic partner, Hanoi sees Washington as an existential threat and has no intention of joining its anti-China alliance. ”>Trump’s military operation to capture former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro have given Vietnamese conservatives fresh justification for their unease about closer ties with Washington. Any U.S. military action involving Hanoi’s ally Cuba could upset Vietnam’s strategic balance, Giang added.>“Cuba is very sensitive,” he said. “If something happens in Cuba, it will send shock waves through Vietnam’s political elites. Many of them have very strong, intimate ties with Cuba.”tl;dr Vietnam sees America as a bigger existential threat than China and all diplomatic overtures thus far - from normalization of ties to recent trade partnerships - have only been to buy time until it can diversify its export markets enough to completely tell mutts to fuck off, with any moves by Washington against Cuba basically proving Hanoi's worst fears and accelerating its efforts.
>>223430837Why would the winners of a war be assblasted towards the losers?
>>223438137Huh. So its both the situation with Taiwan and our recent ventures in Latin America. Yeah that checks out.
>>223438137>diversify export markets>tell mutts to fuck offUnfortunately not many countries treat trade like subsidies, if they're committed to being an export economy then they've already trapped themselves. US consumption isn't real, it only exists on paper, they buy product that only exists on balance sheets as an exist to keep an industry going. Particularly in developing countries with terrible labor laws. If their entire strategy is just resisting the US because uhh US bad o algo they've gone full third worldist.
>>223437877Trump is very friendly with Vietnam, and they don't have any oil.
>>223438230Vietnam should be worried, everyone should be. Anyone paying attention to all the impulsive Trump-Rubio shit in the Caribbean and Middle East - as well as threats against Greenland - would understandably be nervous. You literally launched a surprise war on Iran in the middle of negotiations and killed their supreme leader. I have a hard time believing even Americans can't figure out why all this killing isn't great for fostering trust.
>>223438293Every single time the US chimps out it's over oil or Russia. Greenland was because Denmark was threatening to let it go independent which would remove it from NATO, which they backed off on and now need to hold it or sell it. They can't go independent either because they import everything. Cuba has been crying about a blockade for years despite being a country reliant on exports, the US is still pissed off about castro like 90% of their infrastructure was built by private companies (mostly from the US) and he nationalized it. There has never been a point where the US has liked Cuba or had been kind to them. The negotiations in the middle east were about the petrodollar primarily, Saudi Arabia cancelled it like two years ago and now the ME is on fire and every retard selling oil wants to price war. Iran and Israel have been lobbing missiles at each other for two years straight, there's no surprise about this war. Israel attacked Syria and hit an embassy, Iran fired a missile at them in response, now everything in the ME is on fire after UAE started demanding more US presence because they're scared shitless of Iran.
>>223438551I personally think most of those reasons are bullshit (especially oil, since America keeps bragging about being a net exporter) when the reality is that these are all a confluence of Trump pursuing a lasting legacy, Rubio wanting to finally "liberate" his homeland Cuba to fulfill his dad's dying wish (should be grounds for treason by the way since he's not putting America first), and Israel just suckering America into forever wars in the Mideast because he knows there isn't much mileage left in the old girl. But for the sake of argument, let's say I believed all your reasons. You understand it's moot, right? Because the impression they're giving the world is still that you've gone full apeshit.and lost all perspective. No one is looking at a country whose leaders are clearly implementing policy while conducting flagrant insider trading, crypto rug-pulling its citizens, killing/kidnapping heads of state, depleting its munitions stockpiles to critical levels, threatening its allies, and destabilizing the global economy and thinking, "Yeah those guys are rational actors." It's just not happening, this is how it ends.
>>223438795>Because the impression they're giving the world is still that you've gone full apeshit.and lost all perspective. Not that anon, but we are doing the same thing we've been doing for literally centuries. We've basically always been unashamed imperialists and im not the least bit sorry either. Cuba are a bunch of subversive communist shit heads who emptied their prisons into Florida in the 80's and constantly try to fund commie groups in the US, Maduro does the same while Venezuela nationalized *our* oil infrastructure just to ruin it and the Iranians have been attacking our military bases across the Middle East including in various GCC countries for years now. They fuck with our allies, they fuck with our military personal, they fund proxies to kill us, i dont care. We're not giving up our power like the Europeans did. We've changed nothing about our foreign policy and dont care what the international community thinks and never have. The only reason you guys notice it more is that unlike Obama when he was doing his imperialism, Trump has a lot less tact and intentionally tries to play up the "mad man" persona to scare people. You being scared is the point dog
>>223439055>same thingBut you're not. You're tearing up the very same world order you built out of the ashes of WW2 for the sole purpose of maintaining hegemony. You're tearing up your own rules because you all of a sudden decided they weren't favoring you enough. And everyone who supported you in maintaining it, maintaining that very hegemony, is left holding a bag of doodoo.
>>223439055>mad manThis also doesn't add up by the way. Man man only works if you have an actual plan. Trump expended nearly the entire non-nuclear US arsenal just to get a far worse deal than what the Iranians were already offering before the war. Making America irreversibly weaker and gutted just to scare people isn't mad man theory in action, it's an own goal.
>>223439122>You're tearing up the very same world order you built out of the ashes of WW2 for the sole purpose of maintaining hegemonyYou have any idea how many people we killed and countries we overthrew to build that world order? The world isnt a nice place, you either maintain your authority through violence or other people take that authority through their violence. Its the way the world has always worked and its exactly what we did in the previous century>for maintaining hegemony *to violently oppose the spread of communism. The maintaining hegemony thing was the balance of powers autism the Europeans did which only amounted to the 1st World War in the end. After the end of the cold war we've essentially just gone back to our older method of trying to use spheres of influence and the military to ensure our oversees ventures like in the early 19th to early 20th centuries. We've literally never stopped doing it since way before Trump was ever in office. The question is whether or not imperialism is always evil and personally I dont think it is its just an unfortunate necessity of our ignorant violent species that their needs to be strongman. Nature abhors a vacuum and its either you or someone more ambitious who takes control. It sucks, its a tragic, but its also inevitable. >Uneasy is the head that wears the crown Is a common saying for a reason
>>223439241>The question is whether or not imperialism is always evilNo it isn't, because good and evil are abstracts. Even if I were to assume imperialism is 100% congruent with my worldview (which I do by the way), that's not what America is doing right now. America is turning a managed decline into an accelerated one. The American empire is falling off a cliff so fast even China doesn't want it to crash this hard.
>>223439233>Man man only works if you have an actual plan.Mad Man posturing mostly works when you dont have a seeming plan, which we did and do and it mostly involves us pressuring the economic avenues Iran and Russia have been using to skirt sanctions. We took Maduro specifically to coup him in agreement to seize Venezuelan oil facilities , and we overthrew Assad for similar reasons that he was an ally of Iran and a lot of our antagonism towards Iran, besides the obvious zionist shilling from our amazing and absolutely best ally who does nothing wrong Israel, is the fact we've been trying to fuck over OPEC for decades. Venezuela and Iran just so happened to be key members of. In the 70's there was a major economic crisis caused by the Arab Oil Embargo headed by OPEC that a lot of our old heads are still scared of. If we hadn't messed with OPEC or gotten closer to the GCC countries the Arabs could do the same embargo at any time which, yes, is a huge threat to us. By disrupting Iran and Venezuela we also have been fucking with Russia as result who have been using these countries to skirt around oil sanctions and get military assistance from, specifically from Iran's shaheed drone production which we have been bombing. Donald Trump's mad man thing is a schtick, whatever room of generals have been actually plotting all this have been doing it for decades. I mean if you want thr honest truth, a president isnt as powerful in a republic as you think is. Functionally all republics and at scale democracies are oligarchic in terms of hierarchical structure and those guys are the ones who really get to pressure the plans of the state. The president just has the final say in what actually happens, not necessarily the momentum of what we are trying to do or why.
>>223431168Nigga your age is probably 3-sth. Tf do you mean "it was better under America" like pffft, you don't don't even know what life is like under the French or American tf?This has to be trolling
>>223439282>it isn't, because good and evil are abstracts. And yet the realm of the abstract exists? Numbers are abstract, they still exist.>America is turning a managed decline into an accelerated oneI disagree. People have been predicting our imminent collapse since the gilded age for the same reasons we are discussing now. >the ventures in the Phillipines and Latin America are going to bring us to the brink, we just barely got out of a civil war theres no way america can tank thisWas what a lot of people were predicting. The cold war had similar narratives back then too, we've been in "lately stage capitalism" for like a century at this point. A lot of people thought 2008 was gonna be it too. In reality I dont think we are anywhere near collapse yet and all the people pointing to Rome are historically illiterate imo
>>223439329The more likely explanation is America realized it was becoming less competitive in an increasingly globalized world and so fell back on military options in an age when they're not only no longer viable but also a quick way to torp your soft power and piss away any goodwill you'd built up over the decades. I'm not saying this necessarily could've been avoided either, Americans were already losing industrial capacity and propping up an economy on speculative asset bubbles. The writing wasn't just on the wall, it was engraved with a power drill. In a world where it's not the big that eat the small but more the fast eat the slow, America couldn't adapt fast enough and is now mostly running on historical inertia. Manufacturing isn't coming back, the expertise is no longer there and the people aren't a cohesive society anymore.
>>223439375Your mistake is thinking it's a collapse, it's pretty obvious it's just a decline. An accelerated one but no, I don't see the country turning into one of your survivalist post-apoc novels. Not for a while, these things take decades. You're already at the stage of aimless military adventurism, but again without the munitions to back it up. Trump didn't stop and suddenly decide to give diplomacy a chance - more likely the energy secretary told him the SPR is spent while the joint chiefs finally got through to him that he has maybe a month tops before there's literally nothing left to lob at Iran except ground troops.
>>223439414>The more likely explanation is America realized it was becoming less competitive in an increasingly globalized worldEh, I disagree. We are still the second largest manufacturer after China despite some of the shift in the market away from it. We are not as much of an asset economy as people think >Manufacturing isn't coming back, the expertise is no longer there and the people aren't a cohesive society anymore.I mean theres been a marked decline in social capital for sure but that seems to be a universal in the global economy and isnt actually that unusual when it comes to highly complex and specialized economies. There was a book I read awhile back about the theories around the Bronze Age Collapse, and one of the main theories revolved around social stratification in Bronse Age civilizations leading to critical gaps in communication and specialized learning that essentially couldnt tank fluctuations in weather and war based strife fast enough but I dont think with our modern forms of communication we would suffer a similar kind of collapse in the modern internet age Fucking cant remember the book for the life of me though
My father who was a draftee during the Vietnam war used to visit local Viet orphanages in his later years and bring huge packages of toys and amenities. Not necessarily as penance, because he didn't see combat, but there was a firm bond towards those in the South and the country in general.
>>223439480>Your mistake is thinking it's a collapse, it's pretty obvious it's just a declineA slow collapse is essentially a decline. But going back to Roman history, the thing people try to point at as an example of why America is about to die. The Romans went through far more extreme periods of crisis, decline, and renewal and bounced back multiple times throughout its history. Declines and collapses might be a part of a civilizational cycle but they do not always imply the total destruction of a state or culture >has maybe a month tops before there's literally nothing left to lob at Iran except ground troopsI think he was hoping for some kind of accelerated Syria situation with a popular uprising desu. There is no way to overthrow the IRGC without using some of our ground troops lmao. As much as the American public probablt isnt on board with that, I know for a fact that the Green Berets, Ranger Battalion, and Marines are probably itching for a real deployment and dont really give a shit. We'll just have to see whay happens
>>223438795Did you not catch every Pacific nation denouncing in unison China's ICBM tests? Despite the dissatisfaction over the Iran war, most countries that face a tangible threat from China will still prefer the United States.
>>223439493>We are still the second largest manufacturer after China despite some of the shift in the market away from itThat's an obfuscation, or just being reductive, take your pick. America is still a manufacturer but it now focuses on complex, high-tech sectors with extensive automation and high barriers to entry (like aerospace, pharmaceuticals, microelectronics, and defense, etc). Meanwhile, for things as essential as shipbuilding (even military shipbuilding) and you're critically depleted.Again, part of the explanation is America moved up the value chain, my contention is that it also moved in the wrong direction. Aerospace and defense, that's fine, but those are the bread and butter of civilization and they're not massive job creators. The data centers are only exacerbating the problem, I probably don't have to tell you what a population starts resorting to when it sees its bills climb, its energy and water get taken up by monuments to the tech billionaire class, and its wages either stagnate or go out the window because the jobs aren't there anymore. Eventually something gives when a people feel they're not being listened to and based on what Americans keep telling me, their leaders really aren't listening to them at all. >>223439588I'd keep specific historical examples to a minimum just because the Romans had far different circumstances both in what accelerated the decline (as you point out) but also just how information is disseminated, the motivations of the political class, the geopolitical environment, etc etc.But on the wait and see, that we agree on.
>>223430837their history is so brutal that the Vietnam War was Tuesday to them
>>223439617I don't think that showed them preferring America, I think that showed:1. Many are still wary about China (but not enough to sever trade ties or even reverse course on the Taiwan issue if they already switched to recognizing Beijing over Taipei)2. America especially now looks quite distant from the Pacific, none of those Pacific islands are in the Gulf obviously.3. Australia is still considered the most trusted status quo player in the south Pacific region, which isn't something to scoff at.
>>223439670What's Thailand's position on the matter, anyway? Aren't the Chinese deeply embedded in Cambodia? You guys contributed significantly to the FWMAF in the 60s/70s so it's not like you're entirely non-aligned.

>>223439626>but it now focuses on complex, high-tech sectors with extensive automation and high barriers to entry (like aerospace, pharmaceuticals, microelectronics, and defense, etc)Eh, its mostly chemical, automotive, steel working, and electronics and while it being only 10% of our GDP is lower than it used to be its still a huge amount of output. It is a lot more specialized as part of globalization but its not as severe as I think you think it is>and based on what Americans keep telling me, their leaders really aren't listening to them at all.To be fair, they never really have and part of thr game of our republic has been manufacturing consent a lot of the time. Going back to the 19th century, again. A lot of what you see now isnt as unusual in our history and we were ironically even more corrupt in the past during the era of machine politics. We still do that, but nowhere near on the level we used to. >on the wait and see, that we agree onYeah. Im predicting small scale ground invasions inevitably at some point past the mid term which is really going to piss off the Maga base and probably ensure Vance gets the GOP nomination aince hes been playing good cop the whole time in 28 but who knows

>>223438795The US cannot 'brag' about net exporting oil because it's production and trade capacity is throttled by the petrodollar. If that's what you honestly believe then why would the US prop up a system that detriments not just its oil exports, but the export of all of its economy. There is no developed economy that relies exporting. The world isn't game of thrones and the people you see on the political stage are actors, there's clear geopolitical goals most of which revolve around NATO and the petrodollar. No one cared about Israel during the Iraq or Gulf War, they expressly did the former to keep Iraq from annexing Kuwait. There are no people in the US' representative government that matter. 0 it's a reality TV show. Impressions do not matter, no matter what ridiculous exaggerated outrage about pretty much anything the US does which by the way half of the things you list are either wrong or irrelevant as if any state cares about stocks or crypto trading or the US running low on munitions (it's not). It's always about energy 100% of the time, what people think does not matter because they'll pick the course that keeps their lights on, their factories running, their logistics networks online, their farms going, etc. the US can do anything and socialists and third worldists will react negative because they're either terrified of NATO or worried that state will lose the reins of power. That's all it's ever been since the industrial revolution began; the flags, the politics, the nation, the state, it's all sound and fury.
>>223439704It's complicated. Yes, Cambodia was China's closest ally in the region, but because the Cambodian leadership is kind of retarded and can't stop being opportunistic little weasels, they quickly latched onto Trump when he offered to step in and impose a ceasefire under threat of tariffs. That pissed us off because Cambodians were the ones who most instigated the war (according to Australian satellite imagery), so after Trump left we basically tore up the ceasefire and starting bombing them again to show the khmers they couldn't just keep pulling their terrorist shit on us. It worked by the way, we now occupy all the disputed territories and the Cambodians can only bitch about it.To get back to the question though, China basically doesn't like when conflicts start popping up on their doorstep, bad for business. We might not have thrown ourselves into their arms but we're wealthy enough buy a fuck ton of their stuff, including VT-4 MBTs and EVs. Meanwhile Cambodian scam centers (often run by criminals who escaped China) were kidnapping Chinese citizens and add to the Cambodians trying to have closer ties with America, China doesn't see them as reliable as they used to. They still sell us way better equipment while selling Cambodia Cold War era tanks.tl;dr our relationship with China is getting better (we even reaffirmed that Taiwan isn't a country) while Cambodia is considered a less reliable actor no matter what appearances they might keep up. This isn't to say we wholly prefer China over America but Trump is the one imposing new tariffs on us and he also forced a ceasefire that really only benefited Cambodia, which again we tore up.
>>223431234Japan is also one star rating then
>>223439715I'd be keeping a close eye on Rubio. He wants Cuba liberated and unlike Trump I suspect he won't be squeamish about committing ground troops.>>223439772My view of it is America kind of missed the boat on new energy innovation. Like yeah, it still has a (very) robust green sector but that's literally in spite of the current admin at this point. Raising the price of solar panels when they were becoming more affordable than fossil fuels and tearing up windmills that were almost completed because Trump considers them an eyesore is erratic policy at best. The next dem administration will kick it back up again and the next GOP admin will reverse it. The biggest impediment to the US maintaining relevance as I see it is the inability for any admin to prevent the next one from doing a 180 and just trashing everything the last one started.
>>223439626>shipbuildingThe US doesn't do commercial shipbuilding the Navy controls it completely. When people try to show that the US has declined in shipbuilding they always show commercial production. How do you think the US maintains their navy without shipbuilding? It eclipses every other country in terms of specialized naval equipment and military ships. Most of the US' production isn't commercialized like developing countries (and yes China is still developing) whatever public sector specialists you don't see there's a massive private sector that isn't releasing data. Consider that China pretty much only had low end engineers for the entire 2000s, most of their cities were built within the last 20 years. If for whatever reason you need an army of proletariat to work factories you can train them in a single generation with compulsory education, that's what the Prussian factory school system was developed to do. Data centers do nothing aside from upsetting Reddit, the only conflict of interest with mass privatization is the job market which frankly becomes a burden if it runs your production over capacity. This is how industry hollows out if you overproduce that's why dumping isn't allowed in liberal economic models.
>>223440065I said commercial and naval. You're obviously behind on the former but you're also lagging on the latter. Everything is behind schedule and this is before we even get to the dumpster fire of a procurement process that applies to basically every ship whose class doesn't begin with Arleigh and end with Burke.

>>223440494its the best the katana can do. do not fret, coke is merely just mightier and is nothing to scoff at.
>>223440101There's no behind in the former, the US outright has no incentive to do commercial shipbuilding because the USD is overvalued no one would buy it because it would cost so much more than if any other country. The latter is demonstrably superior since that's the primary focus of the US military. The US isn't operating by tonnage or exporting metrics, they're producing in-house and only selling to the Navy. The US Navy is stupidly ahead of any other country in terms of power projection and impact. There's no point to raw tonnage, you may as well raise a speedboat army like Somali pirate if mass producing low end ships was all it took to run a navy.
>>223440607>the US outright has no incentive to do commercial shipbuildingSomeone ought to tell that to the architects of the Maritime Action Plan and the Ships Act then. You know, save them a penny. Or I guess nickel now.
>>223440806Both of those primarily involve tariffs and tax zoning they were proposed this year, it's more expensive to sell the ships even within the US than to buy it from a country with a weaker currency. It's also a merchant marine project so it still barely leaves the navy, tweaking the system to sell domestically is annoying enough selling to global supply chains would be a nightmare.
>>223430837I hate America and I hate their cultural influence.>>223431168Cuck.
>>223430837Why would they be ass blasted? We're the ones who got our asses blasted by them.
>>223440940Also if you're not meeting your deadlines and your ships are unable to be crewed due to personnel shortages and being stuck in maintenance hell, you do are not "stupidly ahead" in force projection in any meaningful way. Sal explains it best, I'm sure you already know about him. https://youtu.be/HOHKog66DaA

>>223441016This is nitpicking, being ahead in force projection means exactly that at face value it's clearly measurable. Carriers, subs, destroyers, etc. there's no other country that comes close even remotely otherwise they already would have been stationed or policing waters. But there was a deadline missed or...ahhh we're lacking an apprentice sous chef to clean dishes...uhh there's some rust on the cabin doors too. If you want to cry about this kind of detail you're doing actuary work and missing the forest for the trees.
