Umbuku, who just sold his father's land to afford a plane trip, cannot just go to America on a whim because he's an uneducated third-worlder with no documents and nothing to his name. Brazil fixes that by providing the basic amenities like stable electricity, free healthcare, free college, and a minimum salary with many benefits like food cards and transportation cards, and easy documents that allow him to leave for another country when he feels comfortable doing so. Not to mention this is not a homogeneous country like Chile or Argentina that also provide all of those, so he will not face any sort of discrimination. They'd need to do even more than that considering the inertia of everyone being content with English and having everything set up around it already.Also China is doing the opposite of what you're supposed to do if you want to spread your language abroad, by insulating themselves from the outside world and not having any significant soft power or cultural output for the rest of the world, people learn Japanese and Korean instead despite Chinese having 10-20 times as many speakers for that reason alone. A large part of why English took off even more is the cultural output of the US.

Nobody cares about McDonald's though, that's just a slop chain. China making trinkets isn't going to make people learn its language beside a few business-inclined people. Japan spent decades being a top manufacturing power that flooded the world with cars and electronics, and yet it was known for being a hermit kingdom that few foreigners went to or took an interest in, fast forward a couple decades later of Anime and video games and now theres millions of weebs around the world and everyone wants to go to Japan, that's the importance of soft power that you can't get by just making hard stuff.
