As late as 19th century, Chinese settlers in Taiwan still have violent conflicts against each other. Two fighting groups came from the same province of China. Does that happen in other countries? Does it mean that Chinese people was not a real ethnic group until then?
We did that ourselves to another group of settlers on our continent

>>223944173Do English settlers differentiate themselves according to places of origin? Those from London vs those from York?My main question is about the unity of China. I know it's not a nation compared to England. But was it more fragmented than, say, Japan ? They always said, despite China lacked nationalism, the state, the administration of the countryside, any two Chinese villages still belong to one nation. But they fought on Taiwan. Can I say that the two fighting villages don't belong to the same ethnic group? Or the same nation?
