I think it's disillusioning for Americans in particular to discover how normal and boring Italians are. Interacting with an Italian is pretty much just like interacting with a normal person.

It's not like when you meet someone from Germany and they do that weird staring thing, or when you have to interact with ex-yugos and it's basically a coin-toss as to whether they're a masking schizo.
