the reasons are simple, steam trains were cheap to run and safety standards were low

now to run a train to irish 3000 people village somewhere in kerry you would need tens of millions in rail safety, maintenance and new railbuses. And nobody would ride as Ireland got filty rich and some grandpas drive 2026 cars here
