Whenever I watch a Korean movie, the rhythm of the language sounds more like Japanese than Chinese, and they also seem to use a lot of expressions and exclamations I hear in anime. Has this always been the case or are they adopting loan words recently?

What? All their words and exclamations end in -mnida or -aeyo. It doesn't sound as elegant as Japanese or as intricate as mandarin

Korean sounds like they're singing when they speak, it doesn't sound anything like Chinese

Well that's bound to be the case.
Unlike Chinese, Korean is not a tonal language. Japan is the result of a mix between Korean immigrants and local indigenous people, which is why 80 to 90 percent of Japanese people's DNA is Korean.

A fact is a fact. Even though the grammar and linguistic roots of Korean and Japanese are completely different from Chinese, they adopted a huge amount of writing and advanced vocabulary (Sino-vocabulary) over a long history, and Japan still uses Chinese characters today. Chinese characters have had a massive impact on East Asia.

My only complaint about Korean is that there seems to be little variance in voices. They almost all sound the same.

They are very anal about pronunciation and intonation. Very repressive society.

Japanese and Korean share a remarkably similar grammatical structure
