My grandpa unironically killed french settlers with his gun and when independence was achieve he refused to give it up to the government in exchange for veteran benefits.

Grand-grand-grandfather fought in Russo-Japanese war and it radicalized him before the revolution in 1905. He got then arrested but managed to escape and lived until 1914 in Canada, thinking he'll never come back. After WW1 started he came to Europe, joined Austro-Hungarian army, survived the whole war, joined Polish army and fought on the Ukrainian front (not Battle of Warsaw) against the Soviets, never rose above Sergeant. Apparently left a woman, child and business in Canada, built another family here, in September 1939 joined army, survived but when the armed forces were evacuated via Romania he refused to leave Poland and was executed by NKVD.

The story is bonkers but we at least have some proof for each of those: that he took part in Russo-Japanese war, went to Canada, fought for Austria-Hungary and fought for Poland twice. The rest is family history.

So he didn't kill nobody? Cringe. Imagine having a grandpa that never took a man's life and lived a full life afterwards. Your grandpa is a bitch.

My dad had a grand uncle that went, so my great grand uncle.
I dont know anything about him.
My dad only told me sometimes he'd talk about the war and the usual comment was about how loud the artillery was.
Thats all i know.

My great grampa was drafted and left his small Palestinian town to fight for the ottomans, when he came back and told people in his village about the technology he saw (specifically radios) they thought he was crazy until that stuff started getting imported after the war.
