To be honest, what's the point of the JLPT for real?Do you just want to show off how proficient you are in Japanese, or does a Japanese company you will (or you want to) work for require you to get the certificate?Either way, I feel like the JLPT is not a good exam to measure your real Japanese proficiency.

How do you know if rendaku (連濁) is applied or not when you see a rare compound word you've never seen before? Is it just instict from listening to a lot of Japanese?I just encountered the word 説明本 in some written material so I don't know if it should be read せつめいほん or せつめいぼん説明 and 本 are of course both common words but I haven't seen them in combination
