Political and Economic Context (1994–1996)
Mexico was undergoing severe political and economic instability during the administration of President Carlos Salinas de Gortari and the beginning of Ernesto Zedillo's term:

The 1994 Economic Crisis: The devaluation of the peso led to the "Tequila Crisis," wiping out savings and crippling the economy.

High-Profile Assassinations: In 1994, Luis Donaldo Colosio (the PRI presidential candidate) and José Francisco Ruiz Massieu (a senior PRI official) were assassinated.

Political Scandals: Raúl Salinas de Gortari, the former president's brother, was arrested in 1995 in connection with political corruption and murder charges.

Media Coverage and Public Perception
Although stories of a livestock-attacking creature originated in Puerto Rico around 1995, Mexican television networks—most notably Televisa and TV Azteca—gave extraordinary broadcast time to alleged Chupacabra sightings across rural Mexico throughout 1996.

Sensationalized daily reports dominated national news bulletins at the exact moments key economic reforms and judicial proceedings against political figures were unfolding. Because of this, large segments of the public concluded that the government and friendly media networks were intentionally sensationalizing the creature to divert attention from price hikes, privatization, and political corruption.

Biological Reality
Scientific investigations and wildlife authorities eventually attributed the livestock attacks to natural predators, primarily coyotes, stray dogs, and wild felids suffering from severe sarcoptic mange. Mange causes hair loss, skin lesions, and emaciation, making common predators look unrecognizable and forcing them to attack easier prey like goats and chickens.

Context: the cryptid so many Mexicans are afraid is called 'Chupacabras' (lit. 'goat-sucker'); the mythical beast certain Germans might be afraid of is the 'Follacabras' (lit. 'goat-fucker').

The modern Schwarzwald is entirely the result of regrowth after conservation practices were enacted, literally less than 1% of it today is actual old growth forest

Will one day humanity be free of that?

Sometimes I think we need a Leto II's golden path to free us from that

Nature in Europe has been tamed so much that there basically is nothing that can really threaten humans most of the time.
One time I met a wolf in the wild and it didn't even register to me as a dangerous creature. I was like
>hmmm, what a big dog, I wonder where the owner is...?
I only realized it was a wolf months later when I saw a picture of one online. The wolf just ran away from me.
