As someone who knew very little about Japan, I didn't know what weaboos saw in Japan until I visited myself. They were right all along. I have become the bottom soyjak.

I had the opposite effect when I visited Lisbon. I thought Portugal was going to be some backwater Europoor shithole, but Lisbon was genuinely the most beautiful city I've ever been to and I've toured all over Europe and have been to Japan. The skyline looks terrible, but once you're in the city it looks better than any tourist promotion they have especially the old parts. A close second is Hamburg, it's like an overengineered Venice.

seems like a very sound tourist destination, but i have my doubts about actually living there as there is more to it than sushi and automatic taxi doors. the people i know that moved there tend to be set for life like pewdiepie, or streamers/youtubers who make online content so don't have to endure the rat race and make use of the weak yen. why live in an expensive country when you can live in a first world way cheaper country with the same income
selection bias on my part perhaps

Yeah I feel the same way about moving there. It feels like the perfect place to just fuck off for a month or two out of the year and travel around but actually committing to building a career, and embedding yourself into a completely foreign culture sounds daunting when there are likely better opportunities in other first world countries that are easier to assimilate.
