Was unification of Italy a mistake?

it was being too nice to France over it
but i guess you could argue it was a mistake because of how/when it happened
also a lot of north italian chuds wish it didn’t happen and they stayed in the germansphere

It was necessary for shitaly to ever have a shot at not being irrelevant but sadly it was still inhabited by shitalians

Yes, and I mean both the Risorgimento and the ancient Roman conquests

>Was unification of Italy a mistake?
It wasn’t a mistake. The mistake was including the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and Lazio in this state as well.
>>
>>224539228
No, it wasn’t a mistake and it was bound to happen sooner or later. Maybe Lombardy, Veneto, Trentino and Friuli-Venezia Giulia wouldn’t have been part of it though depending on how it happened. The mistake was not enforcing our claims during colonialism, it created a domino effect and kneecapped our expansion. Libya would be Italian today, Tunisia probably not because the British wouldn’t have let us have total control over the Mediterranean but it would’ve given us leverage for something else, we would’ve held something in the Pacific and China for a while and then slightly deeper Alps territory surviving to present day (assuming war with Austria still happens otherwise somewhere in the Adriatic)

there needs to be cultural and sexual unification not just bureaucratic

There absolutely was. Starting with the economic boom of the 1950s millions of Southern Italians moved north in search of industrial jobs. Nowadays the population of provinces like Turin, Milan and of northwestern Italy more generally, is largely made up of people of mixed northern and southern Italian ancestry. Overall in northern Italy + Tuscany today, fully Southern Italian-descended people make up around 12% of the population. The figure is higher of course if you also include people who are only half Southern Italian, have one Southern Italian grandparent and so on.

The plot twist tho is that these Southern Italians born in the North don’t identify with the South at all, and are often even more racist toward their own people than the locals are… very intelligent lol.

My pvre lvmbard orobic gf has a terrone grandpa and absolutely despises everything she recognises as terrone other than the food
>>

I wonder because it seems like every Italian identifies himself with his city/region rather than the common Italian identity. And there is a big genetical difference between south and north on top of that.

For example I've seen a video of an Italians from Naples cooking Neapolitan pizza in U.S. and get mad if someone calls them or their pizza Italian.

Yes that makes sense. That part of Lombardy was less affected by immigration from the south than the rest of northwestern Italy (the deeper the red, the more intense the influx).

>I wonder because it seems like every Italian identifies himself with his city/region rather than the common Italian identity. And there is a big genetical difference between south and north on top of that
Maybe that was the case in the past but in 2026 everyone identifies as Italian. The whole idea of the Italian nation-state was around the time of Italian unification largely something associated with the educated or even the aristocratic classes. The average peasant who made up the overwhelming majority of the population was largely indifferent to it. Your “homeland” was your city, your religion and your family. Sure, there are some schizo types who will tell you “I’m not Italian, I’m X,” but they’re a minority (with the possible exception of Sardinians and South Tyroleans). Northern Italian separatism didn’t emerge solely out of identity or ethnic considerations either, it was driven largely by economic reasons since taxpayers in the North got tired of paying €50 billion in taxes every year to support the South. The South is essentially a drag on the Italian economy in every way imaginable

>For example I've seen a video of an Italians from Naples cooking Neapolitan pizza in U.S. and get mad if someone calls them or their pizza Italian
Also keep in mind that these exaggerated reactions are deliberately manufactured to generate engagement and views, kind of like those YouTubers who make videos along the lines of “My Italian husband/wife reacts to pineapple on pizza.” It’s an over-the-top reaction designed specifically to create outrage and get people talking

Makes me laugh how italians are pretending to be different. You all look and sound the same, just that the south is indeed poorer.

Only on G25 slop, which is a closed source non peer-reviewed amateur tool of some australian guy (who was caught adding unknown non academic samples to Campanians for some reason). On actual peer reviewed formal academic tools northern and southern Italians plot way closer

Depends, not all of them. Lombards are more similar to Sicilians than to Austrians, whereas Venetians aren’t.

Terroni and Polentoni are like oil and water. They represent two different, incompatible ways of life.
>>
>>224539228
The only Italians who vehemently defend Italy are terroni because their output through history is Balkan tier and want bragging rights by larping, despite 99% of the cultural impact of Italy coming from the North. Northerners either don’t care or hate it because of how much the “Italian” image has been distorted by terroni (we were busy working and carrying the country while they fucked over to the United States to smuggle alcohol)

Depends on the model. Plenty of studies have proven N.Italians are very different (for European regional standards) from S.Italians. They’re still European though, just not that Italian.

Nice delusions, 99% LOL

Most famous/acclaimed Italian director atm: Paolo Sorrentino, a neapolitan
Most famous/acclaimed Italian writer: Elena Ferrante, another neapolitan
Most famous band: Maneskin (I don't like them but objectively they are the most famous Italian band worldwide), a bunch of Romans

Also of the five Italian writers who won the Nobel Prize for Literature 3 were southern Italians (2 were Sicilians, Pirandello and Quasimodo), only one was from northern Italy (Montale from Liguria)

Yes. Italy is a peninsula, not a nation, and that's why the Italian language is a fake construction to patch it all together. There should be 3 states: Northern Italy (or two, Northern Italy and Venice), Central Italy or just the Papal States, and Southern Italy or Two Sicilies.

Unifying it was a Masonic plot to ensure the Catholic Church never again had a leg to stand on in international affairs.
>>
>>224539228
>>224550272
Italy should be 6 states: Lombardia, Etruria, Lazio, Due Sicilie, Sardegna and Corsica
