I just got back from Japan, my second trip, my first was 2018Everything has completely changed for the worst. Food is worse, more foreigners working in konbini, everyone is colder than they used to be. The only thing good is that it was cheap as fuck. The only good thing is no one says Nihojgo jouzu desu ne anymore to you for speaking Japanese, I guess everyone got the memo that it's offensive, kinda regret investing some much time into learning this language. I find it interesting how the same Kanji / Hanzi have grown to mean different things in Japanese vs in Mandarin Chinese...For one example, the word 妖精 (Yousei) in Japanese means "Fairy".However the same word 妖精 (Yaojing) in Mandarin means "Goblin".The same term came represent two different mythological creatures.I wonder quite how many other cases like this there are...

Ok i was thinking that in Italy we say, Dio Cane and it is a bad word but i think in japanese 神犬 isn't a profanity. Same for porco dio but 神豚 can be used in ramen shops menu if i am correct. Luckly we italians say dio merda too soo 神糞.

About ten years ago, I bought a full set of the Fullmetal Alchemist manga with the intent to use them to learn the language. I never made it far.I just got a Japanese to English dictionary in the mail.What's my likelihood of succeeding if I just look up every word I come across, and take notes on the ones that I didn't know? It uses Furigana, so it'll be easy enough to look the romanized spelling up in the book.I think my pattern recognition skills are pretty good, but I should probably do some research on sentence structures too.It's a dumb idea, but I find that the dumbest ideas usually get my brain going better than the good ones.
