And there is no way of predicting how the global weather would react to something like that. We can look at old data from previous mega-eruptions but each one has been different. Even if you luck out and find yourself in a location not getting buried in ash and dust it will be near impossible to grow any food and surface water will all be contaminated to some degree. If you live near a coastal region there is a very high chance of tsunamis, on a terrifying scale I might add. And then there's the cold. It will basically be eternal winter by our perspective. The Toba (as mentioned previously in the thread) was such a disaster that humanity was on the very edge of dying out due to the weather. It wasn't a few months, it was years. And you have to remember that it was the northern hemisphere that got hit the hardest. Think about that. Humans at that time lived mostly in Africa and other very southern locations. The northern hemisphere was hit the hardest. Yet, people almost went extinct while avoiding the worst part of it.

I mean, "almost extinct" is still not extinct. I'm sure if they all go off more or less at the same time we'd be doomed, but the odds of even two of them erupting within a hundred years of each other can't be that high.

Try to avoid "shaky" areas with lots of earthquakes and while there's no science showing that a mega-eruption would cause other volcanoes to erupt it might just be best to avoid them as well. For peace of mind. Other than that it's all about having access to lots of non-perishable foods, clean drinking water, construction materials and a ton of money. I'm just guessing here but I would assume that the construction of a bunker capable of keeping weather and people out while also keeping you alive for at least a couple years would prove quite expensive.
