>>224970652When we are in school, we learn about prominent black figures in American history. Decorations are hung up too, they are just usually posters of famous black Americans. The history that we learn is usually just pop history tier facts (half truth half myth, think along the lines of George Washington chopping down his father's cherry tree), it's a bit of a disservice honestly because there are some very cool, fascinating, and incredibly important stories about black people in American history and how integral to the country they are but we learn absolutely nothing about them in our 13 years of required schooling. People get more information when they elect to attend college or university courses on African American studies. It can be argued that the lack of information on what exactly many black Americans did to improve or build this country for literally every American or immigrant is why a lot of our current rights are just being willfully and ignorantly dissolved by the majority of white voters in this country. It's why the right attacks our education system and why the Trump admin removes anything to do with celebrating black historical figures. Even then they are not stupid enough to completely screw with black history month, or MLK day, or Juneteenth because literally the entire country, black, white, brown, native, and Asian would riot in the streets.

>>224971182not him, but when i was in school 15+ years ago, the holocaust was barely touched upon. It was usually thrown in with general WW2 knowledge. Black history had more coverage obviously since it has more to do with the US than the holocaust.

Black American history does kind of just get lumped into the one month but just through our natural cultural osmosis in the country (higher education, news, books, movies, tv shows) you end up learning more about it through out your life time.
