Sorry to ask a stupid question about English, but what's the plural form of "euro" as a unit of currency?Let's say you want to tell someone how much you paid for something you wanted.Do you need to put an "s" at the end of the unit when it's plural?Or just like yen (Japanese yen), is it considered the plural form the way it is?
>>225009388I think either is acceptable. At least where I am it's more common to say "euros", probably because that's how you pluralise "pound".I get the feeling official government documents and stuff would be more likely to use "euro" as the plural
>>225009388Both are valid. Euros is more casual and Euro is the official AFAIK
>>225009388Euro.
>>225009388https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Language_and_the_euro#English>In the English-language version of European Union legislation, the unit euro, without an s, is used for both singular and plural. However, the plural euros is also in everyday use.[22] Many style guides, such as those from the Associated Press[23] and The Economist,[24] specify the plural euros, and major dictionaries describe it as the most common form.[25][26][27]

It's 2026 and Japanese is still the only major language in the world without a single widely known test that actually tests output. The language is at its peak of popularity, and its alleged "best certification (N1)" is a dogshit reading test that only proves you're now ready to start stepping over beginner-intermediate.

It's funny because sandbagging means something between 舐めプ and 手加減する in English lmao. Originally it meant something else (knock at the door, then knock out whoever comes out cold with a sandbag and take their stuff), but the current meanings supposedly originate from golf (people play badly on purpose to get a better handicap). The meaning eventually expanded>hiding your true skill level or true capabilities, often to get an advantage>>playing at a lower division at a sport or game than you qualify for to get easier matches>>falling to last place on purpose in Mario Kart to roll better items>playing badly on purpose because your opponent sucks>holding back in a co-op game because you're overleveled and your friends would get mad if you just took care of everythingThe translation came out different again. Did you know about the existence of the "generic you"? I think some people might not (at least I had that experience once). It's used for casual explanations and to state rules (it's wrong to do X, it is good to do X, you shouldn't do X)>Those are stairs. You take the stairs to get to a higher floor (i.e. People use stairs to get to a higher floor)note: anyone receiving such an explanation would wonder if the person explaining might be suffering from severe mental issues (who in their right mind would explain what stairs are for?)>The light is red. You don't cross when the light is red (i.e. It's wrong to cross when the (traffic) light is red. Wait until it changes back to green)>Brushing your teeth is healthy (i.e. Brushing one's teeth is healthy)It's obviously the "generic you" because it would be downright idiotic to say tooth brushing is healthy only for the listener (i.e. deduced via 消去法)
>>225091304It might also be sarcasm or an attitude, treating you as stupid when you clearly know the basic information. >that is food! You eat food by putting it in your mouth! From what people explain online, the most frequent words given are クソ野郎, くそったれ, くたばれ, etc.None of them feel like an equivalent. For Spanish the equivalent is probably "vete a cagar" (i.e. fuck that shit, I'm not doing that. Or fuck off, blow it out your ass, go fly a kite, etc.), or "la puta que te parió" (e.g. You spent all the money we had left for the month? La puta que te parió) or "la concha de tu hermana" (lit. your sister's cunt)
Hello all.Does anybody have any recommendations for books to help move from manga to novels? I can read dialogue in manga just fine, and I've been doing it pretty much since I started learning, but narrative prose is quite a bit different to even heavy dialogue.
>>225130355As an Argentine anon already answered, there's no Japanese equivalent of the kanji/word due to the cultural or religious differences between the West and the East.In Japanese, 糞 / クソ (shit) is commonly used to express your strong anger, frustration, annoyance, or emphasis.>クソ! -> shit!>クソ野郎! / クソったれ! -> you bastard!, you asshole!>クソ食らえ! -> eat shit!>クソアマ / クソババア -> you slut, you bitch>クソガキ -> you fucking bratYou also can use くたばれ or simply 死ね as a swear word.>くたばれ / 死ね -> go die, kill yourself, go to hell.Note: くたばる is a vulgar way of saying 死ぬ.If you tell someone unpleasant to fuck off right away, then you can say 失せろ (get lost) too.Something like that.

La puta que te parióJust wanted to clarify that this example shows extreme aggression (sort of like "damn you," but 10x more vulgar), in a "things are about to get physical" way. Picture a drunk husband about to give his wife a(nother) black eye saying this"La puta que lo parió" (substituting a 3rd person pronoun so it's not directly directed at the listener) softens things somewhat (sort of like like a more vulgar "damn it" instead). Still very aggressive, thoughOf course, people might instead say "¿Qué estabas pensando?" What's the actual difference between the usage of に and へ when you talk about movements? Look the same...
>>225139867They're often interchangeable, but へ suggests "in the direction of" (verso, in direzione di), while に suggests a concrete destination>駅に着く, not 駅へ着く>椅子に座る, not 椅子へ座る>東京に行く(visit Tokyo), 東京へ行く(head in Tokyo's direction. Does not imply that you're gonna make a stop there)Of course, you have the other cases where you use only に (e.g. objectives, like 遊びに来る, 買い物をしに行く)

I can't learn this piece of shit language for years now. Nothing seems to get me past the N3 vocabulary and even then I can't understand the meaning of sentences despite knowing just about every word in it. I do your cuckfucked "immersion" all the time, both passive and active like a good linguist hermaphrodite taking both dick and ass at the same time, yet still even the most basic words keep getting forgotten despite GRINDING the cock out of Anki decks, the Core vocabulary and the N3-N2 vocab. Watching anime doesn't even help because they exaggarate. Watching movies doesn't help because they say 1 sentence in 5 minutes. Reading seems to work best, but I'm still supposed to look up words I don't know every 2 seconds. I watched CureDolly videos too.I've started learning as a beginner since I was 11 and I'm now 22 and haven't been actively learning much either nor have ways of immersing with the natives except some obscure niche youtube videos where it's either a 20 hour video of some degenerate pokemon game, or it's a VTuber, or some kaisetsu robotic voice explanation video, and so on.

>>225152561>Nothing seems to get me past the N3 vocabularyWord lists. Find a sentence that portrays the meaning. Take note of nuances, collocations, register, differences in usage (使い分け). Some words are much easier than othersFor grammar, it's just a matter of looking at a grammar point, taking note of the formation, figuring out in what kind of situations it's used and why, and doing some drills (plenty of books, like shin kanzen master). If you're feeling adventurous, you can take a stab at writing a sentence yourself.1つ星ホテルならホテルいざ知らず、ここは最高級5つ星ホテルだぞ?!せめて客の荷物を部屋まで運ぶのは当然だろう? -> If this were a 1-star hotel, I'd get it*, but this is a goddamn top-class 5-star hotel. The very least you can do** is carry guests' luggage to their rooms*Xならいざ知らず is often translated to "I don't know about X[, but]...". However, I think that fits better despite the difference in meaning**I think that's actually 最低限, but I'm not good enoughAnyway, the point is shit sticks a lot better if you do a little detective work and think up scenarios to use a structure, hunt down the words to say what you want, etc. It's self-reinforcing, so doing it right will help you and getting it wrong will hinder you.For listening, it's mostly about getting used to how words sound. Knowing the words and what words they co-occur with helps greatly of course. If you can listen to stuff like the news without pausing, you're on the right track>look up words I don't know every 2 secondsLookups become sparser with time

>>225155863A few hours ago I invited a NEET/djt/ boy to come and live with me. He was more of a Hiki but couldn't get autism bucks. I'm also a NEET but my parents are rich and I was able to offer him anything he wanted. But in return he had to live with me and take female hormone injections, he's now a big girl, as well as take care of himself and dress in cute clothes. Life is beautiful.

>>225156362If the Japanese need to turn down your offer or invitation to go for a drink, they usually use indirect or euphemistic expressions like:>ごめん、その日は予定があるんだ。また今度ね!>Sorry, I have plans for that day. Maybe next time!>行けたら行く。>I'll go if I can.In formal settings, 検討します (I will think about it) is also an option.Trivia: In the Kansai region (western Japan), 行けたら行く is a typical euphemism to decline someone's offer or invitation.Conversely, people in the Kanto region (eastern Japan) tend to take it at face value.
家に来ませんか

Sorry>My neighbor asked me to hold onto a package for him and I need to be home early (unlike the rest of the world, Americans don't pick up their packages at the post office or drop-off points and instead often ask the delivery person to leave packages at their doorstep or deliver them to a neighbor)>I gotta take my car to the mechanic.
