Rent control is a terrible idea, and anyone who can’t pay rent should be evicted. Rent control is basically a pro boomer policy, old people get cheap rent while young people have no housing at all because it completely fucks in the housing market by making it impossible to develop. 87 year old disabled person probably got plenty of assistance and pension from government and blew it on whatever bullshit. Btw, Spain has had insane tourism levels since the 60's, without any troubles for the natives purchasing power, the housing crisis really started in the early 2000's with the building bubble driven by the insane migration levels carried by Aznar's and then Zapatero's government, which brought the first 4-9 million migrants into Spain and projected further more, this bubble was popped in 2007 by the subprime crisis in the US and we haven't really recovered from there.
