What are the productive industries in your country I know Denmark has a lot of medicine companies that just steal IP from the USA and Sweden has ikea, mainly involved in swindling Americans into buying shitty overpriced cardboard furniture. >>225001049I’m a construction worker personally. Though you’re right in that a whole lot of the Nordic economy is all service sector slop these days. Sweden and Finland still have factories and actually export manufactured goods. Denmark is a warehouse country like the Neatherlands. Lots of logistic jobs in shipping. Everyone besides Denmark has a lot of resource extraction. Most famously Norway with their oil obviously. All of those put together i’de say the amount of the population who work in one of those industries ranges from maybe 2% (Denmark) up to 15% (Finland)
We used to have thriving paper and forest industries but those are dead or dying. Some mining up north.Maybe some small scale telecom/IT stuff and research but nothing groundbreaking.Feels like the only thing that turns a profit these days is building datacenters for the Chinese and Americans

We make a lot of machines for mining, see Sandvik for example. We also run the biggest iron mine in europe

You can’t compete with factory workers making 6k a year. A lot of Europeans are stuck in a middle economy situation. We don’t want to give up our last industries so we have to suppress wages to keep prices down but we also want to be able to compete with the wages of high income service economies.Personally i’de probably just prefer we financialize the whole fucking thing like Singapore or Switzerland.
