You can get both types in the US and Europe the main difference is I don't know anyone here who buys the US kind and having had the rustic style bread from both, there's a notable difference in ingredient quality which is broadly true for all food between them. Eating food in the US, even if you're avoiding the obvious slop will still make your stomach hate you after a while. Any time I came back home my stomach felt immediately better though I hadn't noticed it felt shitty until I made it back.
