It's not autism that's wrong with Americans, if anything it's the opposite. They're neurotic or outright schizophrenic. In terms of national character I think autism derives from oversocialization which leads to people becoming sticklers for rules, so it's prevalent in old world countries with a lot of historical baggage and strong institutions; a person growing up in these countries will struggle to break out of the box.Colonial countries and the third world generally suffer from undersocialization where anything goes, anyone can be anything, and so they find it difficult to "root" their identity into a wider tradition. Not being pressed into a box causes a person to become unmoored and blow up all over the place.
