Technically, VN won the war, so that puts you in a different mindset from being a loser. The truth though is that obviously, there's a lot of resentment and unhealed wounds but the VN commies basically forbid any open discussion on the war years because they needed the West so bad to fix their economy. Think of the post-Cambodia invasion embargo as a warning. So, to avoid further bad blood, they quashed all dwelling on the past. Having said that, over the last 10years within the VN commie party there's a new tendency to vilify the west as degenerate, evil etc while singing the praises of a supposedly unified national spirit. Truth is that the South hates the North (for being too much in bed with China) and vice-versa (for being too open to the "evil" West), so that adds complication to the whole picture. Stuff like that feels much more important to your regular VN (which for the most part were born way AFTER the war) than the past.
