the organ procurement organizations tend to be very aggressive. it's shitty. of course my own father died for lack of an available lung, so I understand. Maybe one day we'll grow new organs in a lab, or xenotransplantation will really kick off (early experiments have been pretty successful)

That's not true at all. There is no US organ trafficking because organs are owned by the insurance company. At $40,000 per kidney, plus removal and storage costs, good luck trying to steal it from the jews. Organ theft doesn't happen in countries where healthcare is explicitly not free and therefore just having an organ is itself useless when you also need a surgeon to stick it in you and specially formulated antirejection drugs to stop your body from digesting it.

You don't "sign a driver's license" at least not for the past 40 years. Organ donation is done at the DMV and it's printed. The hospital doesn't need that though, because of insurance concerns regardless of what your ID says they always go by what your insurance plan says. If your insurance plan says you're an alcoholic or if your criminal record says you smoked weed ever you're off the donor list. What's really wanted are eyes, brains, spines, and other similar tissues used in university cadaver testing, most of which is not regulated and easy to fake. Which is how there's so many scandals involving dumped medical waste and body parts showing up and landfills, which cartels and gangs want no part of because universities demand this stuff for free.

There is no "organ procurement organization". It's the insurance company. It is always the insurance company. And, the insurance company always tells patients that the BEST donors are their siblings preferably twins because they need less antirejection drugs. The chemistry supporting all of this ultimately leads to insurers putting patients on dialysis for at least 3-4 years before they're actually hard listed for an organ. This is because dialysis is much more profitable, and more importantly any sort of drug use even cigarettes will have the patient rejected from the list. American surgeons are paid, private ops and have a right to reject patients that drink alcohol, which is frequent. This is how the insurance company realistically pairs down a patient list from 5,000 to 500 to 50 to 5.

And again this is all because American healthcare is paid so the insurer has every reason to delay the final surgery since doing that reduces their billable expenses to the patient by over 90%. Dialysis is very expensive here and dialysis is a paid product, it is not free as it is in Europe.

To get an idea of how profitable diaylsis is, my mom's was about $4,000 per week billed to us. Her PPO covered everything above $800, so we only spent about $42,000/yr on it until she got approved for surgery. Donor was my cousin whom she paid $100,000 out of the house for. Surgery itself was about $30,000 billed and took 8 hours. Follow up drug cocktail was only about $1,000/mo, but our drug copay is $50 which got mom's yearly life costs down to a cool $2,500.

By the way, all of this was avoidable. She ruined her kidneys with diet coke and kfc diet. This is because she got depressed after all her friends died, also from eating kfc. Despite the doctor telling her to fucking stop it with the soda, she drank it every meal more than water. And she still does which is why my cousin's kidney filtration went from 100% to 41% and she's still blaming her genetics lol.

Many countries that do have organ notation by default still have a ton of their citizens use organs for organ trafficking gor unethical hospitals eith dubious legality.

Fucked up fact many people like East African and Muslim organs because Muslims don't drink much or at all, and East Africans have higher organ compatability compared to the rest of Africa and are healthier. Which is why many Germans and Israelis like to source organs from those areas.
