This hasn't been a good thing for American Catholic conservatives who take immense influence from protestant social conservatism. They are angry at the church and unhappy when the pope rebukes them. But when the tradcaths sign up for Catholicism that's what they think they're getting into. That's the emerging problem.On the born again, protestant, more fundamentalist side you see a more intimate relationship between families and the church a lot of the time. This can be a very good thing in small communities. I see them making a real connection. But it also feels to me a lot of the time like they are just playing dress up. They do much of what they do because they want to be seen doing it. They want their physical appearance to send a message to the world. That's a bit cringe to me.I seek my own connection with God. I need to do better. I'm not going to pretend like I'm better than most heavily religious people even if I can find ways to criticize them. But I definitely don't want a place to go to find my own personal moral judge in the flesh. I want to reflect and repent.
