Do people read books in the train in your country
>>
Nope. I need to concentrate hard so I don't get pickpocketed.
>>
I read books on my phone in order to not appear pretentious or performative. I appear to be just another sheep like any other!
>>
who the fuck reads in an environment with lots of noise and other people anyway
>>

The train is one of the few places I can read in peace with kids at home.

I saw Swedes on the subway once in my country and they were playing Zara Larsson at full volume and talking loudly while all locals were silent. Just noisy ASF
>>
>>225484496
What the hell
I thought Swedes were supposed to be introverted and quiet
>>
>>225484496
the fuck am I supposed to do just look at my phone? I'd rather look at a fucking book
>>

I always see people read at the beach desu, I can understand those reading under those umbrellas but not those on the bench’s near the beach, it’s way too sunny
>>
>>225483699
I've tried reading books in public thinking it's multitasking I don't get how you retain the information unless you're in a quiet place. I'd rather read less and retain more than read more and retain less.

fennoswede zainichis no doubt
>>
>>225484812
Swedish sportspeople are the fucking worst
>>
>>225483699
Yes, i do it on train rides that are more than like 30-45 minutes.
>>
i read LNs on my phone since it's better than consuming algorithmslop. reading an actual book outside wouldnt be comfy, i couldnt enjoy it
>>
>>225483699
using the word performative is performative and midwit as fuck
>>
>>225483699
I tried forcing myself to read on the train and bus, both gave me massive headaches.
The best place to read is a quiet terrace right beside a hospital garden

You probably have some undiagnosed eye issue like hidden cross-eye syndrome or something.

>>
>>225484496
People who can block out noise. It's not difficult; you wouldn't watch a video without headphones, would you? Use your eyes to read the letters in front of you.

try moving to a place where you're not in constant fear of getting culturally enriched by diverse and colorful strangers perhaps

I sleep on the train. Although last time I was going by train I had insomnia and just listened to music all way.
>>
>>225483699
reading books on the train is performative as fuck. they will always read some garbage like 48 rules of power or french philosophers
>>
>>225483699
the thing you have to understand about gen z is that they grew up in the age of social media and mass surveillance, so they're always "on". there is no "me time". there is no privacy or solitude. everything is a performance. everything is "content". they experience the entire world through a 6 x 3 computer screen.
>>
Ereaders deperformativize the foul act of reading
>>
I always read in the train and in the bus, because I always got sitting spots. People who think it's performative are retards

The train is generally quiet and I actually read pirated books on my phone, so it looks no different. Although I see many people reading books on the train. It's a good use of time because public transport means a longer commute. If you were gonna read anyway, you are losing less time than driving.
>>
>>225484812
sportsball people do this, mexican ones probably do it as well
>>
>>225483699
Using paper books out in public does seem a bit performative nowadays, I get what he means. They're heavy, bulky, and easy to stain or get wet. Your phone can hold thousands of books and is way more portable.

I usually read on my commute to- and from work. What else should I do, stare at my phone, out the window or at all the stinky foreigners? I block out some of the noise by wearing noise-canceling headphones.

>They're heavy, bulky, and easy to stain or get wet

What.

Whenever I have earbuds/headphones I either put audiobooks or music. Whenever I forget earbuds/headphomes I put BLACKED porn to not disturb the other passengers with a narrator talking or someone singing. I dont know how can someone read a book when other people are around you, it feels a little embarassing and out of place.
>>
>>225486555
White people in groups take on the self awareness of black people. It's quite pathetic

>Your phone can hold thousands of books
So what? You're not reading thousands of books, you're reading one or two at a time (not counting studying for a bunch of different courses in uni or whatever). Why would I want to be distracted by the possibility of switching to another 100 books when I know I have decided to read just the one I am holding?

One of the best things about reading books is getting away from your phone/pc. Reading them on your phone negates most of that. Even if you put your phone or aiplane mode you're still 1 click away from 10 other activities you could be doing.

Also physical books feel nice to hold, they are tactile, smell nice and you get to stare at something that isn't a screen.
>>
Dont read books
Have not read a single book once graduated from HS 20 years ago
>>
>>225484496
its a bus not a fucking airport, ive finished so many books/manga during commutes.
git gud
>>
>>225483699
i’ve never seen any “successful” people recommend doing something on the way to work
if anything they’d advise living in a bugpod as close to the workplace as possible to minimize commute time, they wouldn’t suggest making use of that time
