Might be since testosterone has a mild darkening effect on skin so a light complected woman seems less masculine, or the implication of passivity. Darker complexions were still considered ideal in India before Persianate influence in the Mughal age, darker skin and fine features. I'm not picky about it myself. The last two women I have been with were both of a dark North Indian type, like a young Chitrangada Singh. Some others I know too, come to think of it.
